book full of surprises

I bought the most wonderful book site unseen from an online bookstore!

The book is called "Quilter's Playtime: Games with Fabrics" by Dianne S. Hire. (I have no affiliation with this book or the author.) I thought I was buying something that could be used to have fun at guild meetings. (So much for judging a book by its title.)

So far I like Tic-Tac-Toe the best. It all reminds me of a Sandi Cummings workshop I went to a couple of years ago.

Anybody been able to be in one of Dianne's workshops or used her books?

I took one of Diane's classes in Paducah a year or so ago. But we didn't do any of her "games". We worked on some of her new free hand curved cutting and piecing techniques. At that time she was working on a new book.

< This is my project from the class. I just went to a Sandi Cummings lecture a few weeks ago. I love both of their styles.

I did! I went to a "curvaceous squares" class with her at the Lowell Quilt Festival last year. She was fun, funny, and kind. I really enjoyed the class. It was the first curve I had ever sewn, and she made it a habit of coming over to check on me, and even calling the class over to applaud my efforts as a beginner at the end. Definitely made me feel welcome! The quilt was one I never would have tried otherwise. I started sewing the binding on this week. I don't have a photo of the quilting or the completed top yet, but these are the blocks laid out before I pieced it all together:

Ohhh that's going to be great Lynn! Love the colors! Diane was a really nice teacher wasn't she? I'd take another class from her anytime.

KJ - your quilt is gorgeous. Isn't it extraordinary to see how different our quilts came out from the same type of class?! I love quilting. -Lynn
