OT: Canadian General Election.

As may not be known outside "The true North strong and free", we, here in Canada, are having a General Election on Monday. Luckily, here in Ottawa, the weather forecast is favourable. So let me urge all my Canadian friends to get out and vote. (Tongue in cheek) Remember the old adage "Vote early and vote OFTEN!!!" (VBG)

I already voted at the advance poll, it was a spring-like day and who knows what Jan 23 will be like. I can still vote on Monday, I just have to take Bucket with me.

I already voted as well. Perhaps I can try swearing Emma in at the polls. I think she is likely to be a Liberal though. Loki the hedgehog is definitely a Gilles Duceppe supporter, two of the cats are Conservatives (one is an old fat cat, and the other has a secret agenda), and Evil Louise clearly a member of the Raving Loonie party Dawne

So you will indeed vote early, vote often. I didn't vote Conservative, though I would support a PM from the west, it's his narrow minded Christianity and attitude towards women that stops me even considering the jerk. I think Michael Moore would approve of my vote in part

I voted for our current MP, a cabinet minister, although his party is not the one I usually support, since he is an honest person and good constituency MP. The candidate for the party I usually support is a bright young women, and will live to run another day. Dawne

It looks like voting at advanced polls is the trend by Canadians posting here, including myself. I wonder if this is an indication that there might be a higher than usual turnout at the polls or just that stitchers like to beat the crowds?....or maybe just it just gives us a good reason to tune out all the political rhetoric that the last week of campaigning spawns?

I think in many instances the weather counted, but I also (even though I love politics) have had enough this time. If I have to listen to one more crowing Conservative, I swear I will put an axe through their head and change my screen name to Lizzie Borden.

Guess I'm bucking the trend... I'll wait and vote Monday :)

Nope, he says he can't and that he should not stick his nose in but... he only wishes us well.

I am waiting to vote til the last second just in case someone comes up with something brilliant and I change my political mind. lol There was an All Candidates meeting in our town last Saturday, but I had to make a choice between sitting in the town hall for the day, or taking my first archery lesson with DDs. Man, was it ever COLD standing out in that field all day aiming at those targets!

I'm voting today too. Up till this point we've only been visited by the NDP party, and had a followup phone call from them (a person actually talked to me) and a recorded message from the Conservatives (at suppertime no less - I just hung up), nothing from the Liberals and nothing from the Green Party.

So, now I think I've made up my mind. It seems that only one party actually wants my vote and took the time to actually make personal contact with me about it. No brainer for me here.

I voted NDP, I would like to see them hold a strong balance of power. They are the only party with a good percentage of female candidates, Libs not too bad but boy, hardly any Conservative women, NOT that I find that in the least bit surprising lol

I already voted in the Advanced Poll but if I hadn't I might have been encourage to vote NDP also. My observation about the candidates in our area was the same as Lynne's. Lots of calls and follow up calls from the NDP and not at meal time. I didn't see or hear from any of the other candidates. But what might have swayed my vote was the NDP worker, who brought my flyers from the end of the driveway to my mailbox this morning, when he was delivering more 'get out and vote' information! Should be an interesting evening watching the results!

A little election humour

Martin, Harper and Layton are flying on the Executive Airbus to a gathering in British Columbia when Martin turns to Harper and says, chuckling, "You know, I could throw a $1,000 bill out the window right now and make someone very happy."

Harper shrugs and replies, "Well, I could throw ten $100 bills out the window and make ten people happy."

Not to be outdone, Layton says, "Well I could throw a hundred $10 bills out the window and make a hundred people happy."

The pilot rolls his eyes and says to his co-pilot, "Such arrogant asses back there. Hell, I could throw all three of them out the window and make

32 million people happy."

Hopefully they will not be able to call it half way across Ontario. I see they still try to prevent the west coast from knowing what the east coast did, so if you west coasters do want advance info, just let Mavia and I know lol

Are you in Peter Mancinis riding ? I rather liked what I saw of him.

Strictly speaking, no candidates should be able to knock on my door, paradise in my opinion. However I came home one day to find the Conservative had been in and stuffed brochures under my door. I have an unlisted telephone number but was ready prepared with something any one of the three would not want to hear had they called me.

I figure there is a conservative somewhere in this building who let Khosla in, but I already cancelled that vote out hahaha Many are saying they have not seen canvassers on their streets, maybe that's the really positive thing about a winter election ?

The pilot had the right idea IMO

That would be my riding. he is running for Wendy Lilly's old seat which went to Savage last time as Wendy did not run again and the candidate that was sort of last minute and not well known. Peter was MP for Sydney but lost in the last election, moved to Dartmouth because of his work and is running here. I think his having experience will be to his advantage with the voters and also because Wendy was a popular MP for the riding. It could be close as Savage is fairly popular. His father, (Savage) was the mayor who took Dartmouth from a surplus to debt. and was responsible for this hellish HRM concept. Mike Savage the present MP is a red liberal unlike many of the blue ones presently in Ottawa so that will also make it a close race I think. Ruby
