OT: Cessna & Bldg. Accident in Austin

DSis just phoned me. Seems a Cessna just flew into an office building in downtown Austin, TX!!! The IRS has offices in the building so the FBI is investigating. No one is saying specifically that it is a terrorist incident. The religious fanatics aren't likely to pick Austin, TX as a target. Could be someone had a heart attack while flying his plane and ended up going into the building. Then again, could be someone had a "heart attack" when he got his tax statement and

*then* decided to fly his plane into the building! I'm sure reports with something resembling the truth will be on the news later in the day! DSis is a bit rattled -- says it is quite a different feeling when something like this happens in your own city -- and not too terribly far from where she lives! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Seems the person in question was having major issues with the IRS and they can be a PITA to deal with on simple issues.

Although they are a PITA to deal with....just remember IRS have to follow through with the laws that the idiots in Congress deem necessary.

I was in the "tax" business, and offered a job by IRS. I didn't want a total full time job, and refused it. At the time,I was a 1000hr person with HRBlock, and I didn't need all the stress that would come with an IRS job.

There are so many times that people (and some CPAs) fill out the forms incorrectly, and it shows a massive amount due to the Govt. I have worked with many folk, which amended correctly, showed little or nothing was owed. Usually it was the back-door accounting type who knew little

I had too any ethics; a fault or mot??

PS I still LOVE the process of filing taxes, but not writing the check, which I have to so this year. LOL

When DH got home he told me the same general story. Some guy is pissed off at the IRS so flies a plane into the building where their offices are. The guy doesn't bother to worry about all the non-IRS people who might be killed or injured -- nope he's just gonna do what selfish old him thinks will solve some problem! Only problem solved is that he, at least, is removed from the gene pool!!! Hells Bells, the general IRS folks are just that, folks who have the bad karma to be working for the gummint (as Fred would say). VBS -- I think I'll go have my shower and wash my hair and cogitate on how sane, more or less and relatively speaking, I really am -- asnd that goes for most all y'all too!!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

One of my tenants got caught up in IRS trouble as "last man standing". He had a long separation from his wife prior to divorce. During a lot of this time, he lived overseas. When he returned, he moved into our unit and the divorce was finalized. About 6 years go by and out of the blue, the IRS contacts us that they want to seize his rent money (a direct deposit arrangement because of work related travel).

WTF - his wife, despite the court order to file separately, has signed his name to 4 years worth of 1040's. She has now left the country and is living someplace in South America. And owed the IRS (and the taxpayers) $50K in back taxes not to mention the fines over a business that went bust.

Needless to say, we worked with him on the lack of rent as long as we could, but the IRS, despite proof he filed his own taxes, the court order about taxes (and child support) took his bank accounts and froze them because he was "a flight risk". And wanted the security deposit as well from us. Gee, he only worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. The only upside is that we got a huge break that year because of loss of income.
