OT: Chocolate

Oh - I remember that! I think it was just a special issue, as I haven`t seen it since - I`ll certainly look out for it, though! Probably just as well, as I just couldn`t leave it alone. I only liked it by the handful though - not with milk, as it was intended to be!

No, Penguins in this case are chocolate covered chocolate biscuits, with a thin layer of chocolate cream inside. They`re oblong and wrapped in different coloured foil covered paper.

Going to Tesco`s today or tomorrow, so I`ll have a look for that cereal. Oh dear - I wish you hadn`t reminded me of that!

I tried it both ways and I agree with you...as a snack was *much* better!

Sounds kind of like the chocolate-covered oreos....YYUUUUUMMMMM! Whoever (whomever?) mentioned the mint ones can keep them, though!!!

Thanks! I only had it that once but I think of it quite often! LOL! Sure wish we could get it here. On second thought, it's probably better for my waistline that we don't. sigh.

And there`s me sitting here with chronic indigestion (painful, too!) thinking of CHOCOLATE! Well, I could call mint medicinal, couldn`t I? I love it anyway.

The indigestion is, I think, caused by my extra new BP tablets - I read the leaflet and it says "MAY cause dizziness, tiredness, indigestion, headache" - since I`ve suddenly developed all of those, I`m going to see if the doctor can change them for something else. Shame, though, as they`re doing the job for which they were intended perfectly! Do you want some Penguins if I can`t find that chocolate cereal (with all the yummy chocolate curls, etc.) - I`ll be going there tomorrow by the look of it. I mean, you said they sound like your Oreos - and you need to check these things, don`t you? ;-))

Another Penguin addict here. I was in the UK for the first time in

1987 with my grandmother and fell in love with them. When I came back as a student to Bath, I always had to stock up on them before coming back. I even found them by the case at a Costco here in New York once. My husband thought I had lost it as I was skipping through Costco crowing over the fact that "I've got Penguins, I've got Penguins". Once I fed them to him though, he understood. An interesting thing about them, they are vegetarian approved. It completely made the day of one of the girls I was working with (when I could get them by the case) as she was pregnant and had several very strict cultural food taboos because of it that were preventing her from being able to eat chocolate at all. Once I showed her the stamp from the Vegetarian Association on the label, she was thrilled! The local Brit food store went out of business so I lost that source, but a friend from London who was working over here has gone back now and is willing to ship them to me when needed. I still have two packages of 8 in my freezer, carefully waiting for a day when I absolutely need one! My one holdout in my office drawer is gone though, he was sacrificed to the needs of getting ready to actually take a week off over the holidays! Heather Now drooling and wishing she still had an office sacrifice available...

That's often the problem with medication -- are the benefits worth the side effects?

The only thing that does what I need it to, causes me to faint when I stand up. I spent most of a year in bed because I didn't want to go back to the stuff that didn't work nearly as well.

Oooooo, sorry to hear that! I hope a different prescription takes care of the problem.

But of course!!!! You could send me both and I wouldn't mind. :) Anything else you can think of in trade? I've got some McIntosh toffees (kind of like caramels) from Canada I could share with you (unless you can get those there, too). Floss? Any other goodies you've heard of and would like to try?

You forgot to mention that they are probably a favorite of the dental profession. They're notorious for loosening fillings, but personally I feel it's worth it. lol

Are you talking about that delicious chocolate cereal you sent to me a few years ago? If so, that was gone in one serving!

As for the BP medication, you may want to stay with it for a while longer. Sometimes the side effects go away as your body acclimatizes to the new medication.

Do you remember Sugar Daddy's? They still sell them.

Speaking of old things, does anyone know where I can get good old fashioned Glass Wax? That stuff we all used in the 50s and 60s to do our Christmas window stencils. I can't find it.

It's probably hiding on a shelf somewhere with Jubilee.

Every party has a pooper...... :)

As Lucille says, they're good for removing fillings, so I don't eat them often, but when I do, YUM!!

Oh boy, Jubilee! I remember the smell of that stuff, but it sure did shine up everything in the kitchen. Why do they discontinue magnificent things and replace them with seventeen other pieces of crap which never live up to just these two things, Glass Wax and Jubilee.

LOL! You`re preaching to the converted, V, - I`m sticking it out for another week or two, even if it DOES mean I`m having to keep off tea/coffee/coke and take yet more flaming tablets for the indigestion - actually, I THINK I`m winning!

How on earth could you eat a whole packet of that cereal in one go??? Lovely as it is, I`d have been as sick as a dog! I can`t even remember what it was called now, although I know it was made by Kelloggs.

Good for you. If after that time you are still suffering, then get other medication.

Don't ask. I DID get sick :) I no longer eat like that, nor do I have the desire to. I've lost 55 pounds now at Weight Watchers. Losing the weight I gained when I quit smoking.

Try the Vermont Country Store. If you don't get there before I do. (Gotta leave in a minute to take dh to the eye doctor. Yes, he could go by himself, but I don't trust eye doctors not to decide at the last minute to dilate the eyes and thus make driving home decidedly scary.)
