I've come to believe that this batch of black cotton yarn I bought is cursed.
I originally bought it to go with a pattern called "The Madelaine Jacket" which is being advertised in all the good knitting magazines. The picture of the front makes it look gorgeous. However, the picture of the back, which they wisely don't show in the ads is not pretty at all.
And then there were the instructions.
I've knit for almost 30 yrs now, can figure out almost every set of directions I try, but these are written very badly. They don't even mention row 1, but start with row 2 in the back! I gave it a shot, but became too irritated with both the instructions and how ugly I felt the back was. So, I tore it out and decided to crochet a sweater instead, using the same yarn.
Well....I got the basic part of it done, just needed to add the seam and lace ruffle around the edges when it because obvious I would not have enough yarn. I hadn't been sure from the start if it would be enough, and sure enough, it was not.
I've now torn all that out and am starting again, this time the sweater is a mix of knitting and crochet, and I pray that the yarn holds out (instructions say it should be enough, but with the curse on this yarn.....).
