True - but most of the leagues require full gear - liability, etc. Plus, skating in just your sweats gives a bit of an advantage over those in gear. But, it is a look - and mostly seen at pick-up.
You say - who cares what your ass looks like in your pads? But, it's true - in his goalie pants DH looks pretty big - all the goalies I know do. In skater pants - those fit a bit differently. Of course, you could also point out to DS the goal of protecting his valuables - so to speak. It seems pretty common for goalies to get called similarly something stupid in the insult world.
I had a really good friend who worried that her legs looked fat in shin pads. When we'd not been playing very long - her original shin pads were too small - but we got them for about nothing. Then we were moving up, got better gear - and she wouldn't change her shin pads - seriuosly. Finally we all convinced her - along with some serious bruises - that she was being an idiot and to get decent shin pads. She's quite thin - never worried about the pants - well - not too much. But she got a girdle, with a shell over - which fits a lot better for most of the girls/women on the slender side (guys, too). Also - her butt didn't look so fat according to her. It was pretty darn funny. We decided that we wouldn't ever skate with bottoms on if we weren't wearing shoulders (like doing a free skate, work-out thing) because then our butts looked really big in comparison with shoulders looking so small.
Nice. It's always fun to watch these type of routines.
