OT: Fred's new Dog Baby

Hi Guys, I posted a photo of Casey, Fred's new Dog Baby at Webshots. It's in the Babies - Ours & Others album. At least I'm pretty sure that's the new name of the album. Had to change it since I have photos of my GranDOGhters, RIP GrandCat and Step Doggy. I have several photos of Chilkoot but have not posted them. If anyone would like to get a look at him (and what a HUGE, beautiful, gentle doggy he was) I will be MORE than happy to add him to the album. Just post to this thread and let me know. HMMM, on second thought, I think I will just add that Beauty Boy to the photos! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

OK -- I have added Chilkoot to my Webshots album "Babies - Ours & Others". He's third in the line up, right after Bunnie (Chunkybutt) and Casey. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Thank you very much for adding the pictures to your album so others can see the little? puppy Casey and my old buddy bear Chilkoot. I thank the others for their kind remarks. Casey has some very fine markings around the eyes that really give him a devilish cute look, and *yupper*, around Marjorie he gets way with a lot of things that he won't try with me. Geeesh, someone has to be in control here or things would definitely go to the dogs. . Chilkoot was very, very smart and even though he completed obedience classes at around 12 weeks of age, he quite often tested me to see where his limits were. Malamutes have very selective hearing. It looks like Casey is very smart also. When on a leash he stopped dragging his butt and acting up after

50 feet. He learned the *sit* and *down* commands a week ago and responds even before I can get the words completely out. Not too sure if that is good or bad. Yesterday he did a *sit/stay* for over 2 minutes which for a young puppy even surprised me. We are having no problem getting food or his toys out of his mouth which is kind of weird because despite the fact he has freedom to our whole yard he is doing his BMs all in a 4 foot square area and appears a bit protective of the area. He is either acting a bit protective or is fascinated by the shovel. LOL

For those who may be interested here is a brief history; Today, there are essentially two different "kinds" of Alaskan Malamutes. One line is referred to as the M'Loot and the other is the Kotzebue. One difference between these two lines is the size of the dog. M'Loot Malamutes are larger than the Kotzebue's. In addition, true Kotzebues have only wolf-gray coats, whereas M'Loots come in a variety of colors, including wolf-gray, black and white, sable and white, seal, blue, and white. Kotzebues also tend to be less aggressive than the M'loot, however they can be more hyper. Alaskan Malamutes are credited as one of the few breeds that is very close to its original form and function.

Chilkoot and Casey appear to follow the M'Loot line more than the Kotzebue line. Both are basically silver grey but with quite a bit of sable around the head and shoulders. The eye colour of all Malamutes range from dark to light brown. Chilkoot's eyes were very light, almost like a tiger's eyes. Casey's eyes appear to be heading to the dark brown side - time will tell. NO PURE BRED Alaskan Malamute has blue eyes!

Actual I didn't think of him as that big. I guess I got used to his size. He took up the whole back end of my van and when he stretched out back there for a snooze he was around 8 foot stem to stern. When we went to the park to play fetch (only place around here with enough space) we used to draw quite a crowd. Maybe it was because the ball we used was a football. He was one h... of a wide receiver. LOL

Just so everyone knows, Chilkoot was a big, Big, BIG dog, sweet as can be, well mannered, polite and extremely gentle. I need to use a cane to walk and when I was there he let me walk him and was VERY careful not to go too fast which was a good thing since it was winter and there was a load of snow on the ground :-).
