DH's cousin has just given me a treadle that belonged to his aunt (not DH's mother, obviously, but the other side) Called Excella, German-made, purchased in 1940. I shall have to do some research, but if anyone knows anything, feel free to chime in! She has all her accessories, including a zigzag foot. Downside: the instruction booklet is in that illegible gothic script. I may finally be forced to learn it :-p The cabinet is very plain, in good shape apart from a bit of discoloration on top. I plan to do a bit of gentle refinishing. The machine itself is in perfect condition. Roberta in D, feeling happy

I was just thinking. ( A concept that ought to just scare the pants off of you.) A sm manual written in Gothic script is a treasure too. When you can, why don't you have a copy made on 'good' paper and perhaps frame the pages? Or at least, carefully store them for whoever inherits your precious new baby. And, could you do a picture for us? We'd love to see her. Polly

Oh, my, that's something! Good for you!
These extra machines around here, even tho' they will work, don't get used much, but they make great conversation pieces, and the cabinets offer another display surface, or a place to set out snacks. But mostly, I just like the old machines; many times, men want to try to sew something on them, just to see how the machines work.

Forgot to say that when I was in high school I sewed with a treadle and I had a zig-zag attachment to go with it. It was a treat! Barbara in SC
