For what ever reason, the pantry seems to eat fluorescent light fixtures. And since the last one died over a year ago, I have been practically lightless in there except for a dim flicker. Which meant, cleaning the pantry was as impossible as it was to find anything without a flash light or opening the door to the spare fridge. (and that didn't work too well either)
BUT
Today I nagged (yes, I nagged) DH into hitting a couple of lighting stores (we already knew the big box stores had nothing that fit the need). And lo and behold, we found a halogen surface mount light for reasonable money. And DH even installed it today. I then tore the room down to the walls (except for some boxes), scrubbed the floor and tossed trash that had collected ( a broken hockey stick, plastic recycling,....) and even removed the ice from the floor of the freezer.
