An Actual Happy Dance!

Can I have a dance of sorts for getting my nightly rush transcript out of the way before 9 PM? (Last night, we were still at it pushing 11.)

And best of luck at Woodlawn! I was there 2-3 years ago, and it was a lovely show. I doubt I'll be able to do it this year, though.

Thanks - it came out really cute. I'll do the pic later. I'm really happy that I decided to do it in the overdyes.

For us - I did the middle tone as the "Fragrant Cloves" from Sampler Threads, and that is in the upper and lower kind of step border. DH wants to paint the breakfast room some burnt orange color - so I think it'll fit there someplace.

I have no delusions about the piece at Woodlawn. It did come out very pleasing to the eye - but it's not a grandiose thing . Does have a lot of different stitches - some blackwork, Rhodes, tiny Smyrnas, double-sided, sawtooth, satin, Queen, cross-stitch, and something else.

I think they were kind of short on pieces last year, so I was glad to put it in - just for the fun of it, and heck, you get an admission ticket so that helps with the pricey entry fee. I heard there is at least one really stunning hand-sewing piece in - a ball-gown - sent from someone in Ky. Maybe you can find time to come down and go see with me, and the other locals.

Congrats on the finish. Meanwhile though I had planned to start Little House piece, I have not stitched a single stitch all week. Stitching mojo - where did you go???

And good for you getting something into Woodlawn. That deadline just snuck up on me and I'll shoot for finished the Agnes Scot for next year.

I think it would absolutely wonderful to go see the Woodlawn show with other people who do needlework!!!!

Since I haven't started new job yet - I'm good - but would rather go sooner than later. Can't do Mar 6. Show is Mar 1- 31.

Are folks looking at weekends or weekdays? If weekends, then first and third weekends aren't so good for me, but the others are likely fine.

Thankfully my local friendly framer did a great, fast job. And Agnes Scot is gorgeous and will do well next yeaar!

Definitely more fun than forcing non-stitchers into looking not so bored!

FYI - for Sue 2 - Woodlawn is an Historic House just near Mt Vernon that hosts the "National Needlework Show" every year. There are entries from all over, and it's pretty much everything hand-sewn - but no macrame, knitting or crocheting. NP, XS, counted thread, hardanger, hand-sewn garments, etc. All displayed throughout the house.

We'll work out an outing for the locals....

Why don't we do a little off-line mail like the last time and see what our acceptable dates are, and then we can post on RCTN for any non-locals that are coming down/up and wish to join in?

On the "dance" topic - we're going to see Edward Scissorshands - the Musical/Ballet at Kennedy Ctr tonight - should be interesting!

Oooooh, I'm jealous! Several of the girls at our studio are supers for the upcoming NCYB "Midsummer Night's Dream" (brutal rehearsal schedule--kinda glad there were no boy roles available this time!). I'm hoping they start offering reduced ticket prices for some of the shows so I can take the boys for less than an arm and a leg. We got to see ABT's mixed rep. program for cheap last month. I think the boys would really enjoy Midsummer Night's Dream.

It was GREAT - not to make you jealous. And the lead indeed is a ringer for Johnny Depp. Got to be a hard role - not the dance so much - but having the constant manipulation of the scissor-hand extensions. Just fabulous - a well deserved Standing O when the lead came out - and then they got 3 curtain calls. Very clever set. No vocals at all - the did the intro with a large "once there was a boy" projection. True to the movie - which was the story. Had permission to use the score for the themes from the movie (Danny Elfman music) and then filled in the rest with a full score. So catchy that I really want the CD - we almost bought it - but pricey ($30) at KC, so I'll look a bit (even with the member discount - still $25). Anyhow

- it's very much a modern ballet - a lot of elements of Rodeo or the Grand Canyon type. Quite cleverly done. If they're doing student discounted tix for either of the matinees today or tomorrow - I would recommend trying to go. Oh, they have 2 leads for all the major cast members - I think it's a tough schedule so instead of understudies subbing in they just have 2 people doing a handful of the roles (alternating the shows). And then they had signed posters from that performances "Edward".

There were a lot of ballet-o-manes there. I think they must have adavertized this as an addition to both the dance subscribers and the theatre. We were pretty far from our normal seats (K on the aisle) but instead about dead center, though back in Y. For the dance performance it was really good - and the people next to us were very nice - we were tallking about all being Sat subscribers and this is where we ended up - I expect the dance folks were in their normal seats and then it got filled in.

About 10 min in - a family of woman and 2 daughters came in late - to fill in in front of us. And she was big and cranky. When she sat down - first time this has ever happened to me - I completely could not see at all - except the most fringe on the right side. Totally blocked my field of vision. Spent that act practically on my seat neighbors shoulder - or on DH's. We nicknamed the lady "Hagrid" - she was just big, and I guess very tall in the torso, with big, Hagrid hair - but Red, and very broad-shouldered. After intermission - we moved over to our left (a group of 4 empties - so we moved 1, and the people on the other side moved into the center to join us.

Wish you could've been there with us.

Yeah, yeah....I'm glad it was good, though. I just love going to see dance/musicals/theater of almost any sort.

I heard that it was a very demanding role.

Hmm...the boys, particularly DS1, haven't really grown into very modern stuff, but loved Rodeo. (Copeland, good; Mahler, bit beyond them yet ;-) ). I think they probably would have enjoyed this show, though. It's the really abstract stuff that they find more challenging, which isn't surprising at their ages.

That's pretty common for the big story ballets. They're just too much for the leads to handle a long run with a show or two every day.

Me too--would have been fun! (Bummer about "Hagrid"!)
