What a Happy Dance!

Three blue ribbons and a color picture of one of the quilts in the newspaper. YeeeeHa. Not my quilts, even better. The friend I have been teaching wiped out the competition of 130 other quilts and has won 3 blue ribbons. *Three*. Yessss. Finally. Somehow. It makes it all worth while. How many times have I yelled, "Slow down, this is not a race"? How many times have I softly threatened, "If you don't change that needle, I'm going to hurt you"? Repeated over and over, "there are no quilt police", cringed when I heard violent ripping, nagged when I saw hasty pressing and sympathized when things didn't go well? This might account for the varicose veins in my neck. Winning a blue ribbon is grand; having someone I taught win them? Priceless. Polly

congratulations Polly and Pupil. What a great feeling, to have patiently (or not?) brought someone from a learner to a winner. Marvellous. Well done the team >g< . In message , Polly Esther writes

That's great! What paper published the pic? Anything we can get to online? I'd love to see it (and I'm sure I'm not alone). Congratulations to your student/friend!

I am so happy for you. I have been repeating over and over again that there are no quilt police. I'm trying to make my husband a quilt with a lot of fat quarters with cards, Texas Hold-Em, etc. I was going to use one of the Turning Twenty Patterns, but I think I'm just overthinking this. I just need to start cutting and do it. He will love it no matter what I think it looks like. I just want something quick to put together. Congrats again, Polly.

Some of my nicest quilts have been plain nine patches alternating with large squares that show feature fabric. As you say bottom line - he will love it. Go for it Sherry.

Polly - congratulations. A good teacher is great. The fact that they did so well bodes well on you.

The secret ingredient was that she seriously wanted to learn. I wouldn't last long in a class of surly beginners like I've heard of here in rctq. Polly

great idea, Fay. what say you hold a nice long (couple of weeks ought to be enough ya think?) quilting retreat at your place and all of us in the south pacific region can come round and all learn together. :) just let us know what we'll need and i'm sure we can figure out something. sleeping bags? tents? eskies? barbis? beer? chocolate? as well as our quilting supplies of course, lol. j.

Wouldn't we have a wonderful time? I doubt I know anything I could teach you; probably wouldn't nag or yell. I'd just enjoy the company, pop open a beer and say, "Let's have fun!". Polly
