Little Happy Dance, sort of....

This isn't a happy dance about finishing a project (which would be a BIG HD), but rather a "happy feet" moment about a reunion. As do most of you, I have waaaay to many projects in my rotation. And others pop up - an ornament for so-and-so, a bookmark for so-and-so, this design just "called" me, etc. - so I put aside the big sampler I'm doing for myself for months at a time. And *finally* I finished the other project I had a deadline for, and promised myself I'd pick up my big silk/linen "for ME" piece.

Isn't that a glorious feeling? Playing with color and texture - it's almost hedonistic - and it's all FOR ME, both the pleasure of playing

*and* the eventual result. So I've spent the past two nights luxuriating in it!

And knowing it won't last - it's a big piece, and I won't stick with it all the way to the end without interspersing other pieces - makes this little patch all the more pleasurable, and in a week or two I'll pick up the next piece and lay this one aside, with some anticipation of capturing this wonderful feeling again!

So do any of you have a "dessert" piece like this? The one that's the cherry on top?

What a wonderful piece of history, and still intact! I'd love to see a picture of your finished piece....whenever! Will you include the gardens in your stitching?

For me it's Fairy Grandmother. I had everything done except her wings when I had to put it aside for some Items for a benefit auction. Then I got the top wings done before I had to stop and make 3 baby gifts. I'm currently about 1/4 done with the bottom wings but that will come to a screeching halt as soon as the fabric from my personal fairy gets here and I can start on Summer Garden. I will probably finish her after that so I have time for the beading and framing before the fair next summer. :)

I think that the gardens would need to be another design! The one I`m doing includes the path up to the house and part of the pond with a couple of swans. PLEASE dont encourage me to get sidetracked by the gardens until I`ve actually finished the first one! They`d make a nice pair though, wouldn`t they?

Glad it`s not just me who gets easily sidestracked. Talk about the grass on the other side of the fenct being greener!

Talking about grass etc., I had a very sad morning seeing our beautiful (but much too large!) Deodara being cut down.

I think we`ll plant another in it`s place - when it gets to the size of the previous one, we`re not going to be around to care!!!

You're so right. And having seen some of your big projects - they are big and gorgeous.

What a great description.

Of course we do - note the "we" - 'cuase I'm sure I'm not the only other one. I have a big NP project with lots of different threads & sitches that I work on then it goes away for a while, then rotates back out. But, I feel that way about 2 not huge samplers that I'm doing - just because. Well, one is for DH - but I love looking at the nice silks. I did just buy a little bit ago another Indigo Rose smapler - "The Acorn Sampler" - I can honestly say - that will be a dessert piece - because it's a good size, and, well, going to be just because I want to do all those lovely stitches and play with some nice silk. And I definitely have some knitting project that is huge, and with amazing yarns - that DH doesn't even know about - I bought a throw kit of Colinette yarns - scrumptious hand-dyes - ribbons, mohair, silky stuff, and chenilles - when my LKS had their annual sale. IT was irresitible at 30% off, and, well, but, I have to finish some other stuff first then I can start it!

But, now as soon as I finish the Summer Garden - possibly tonight or tomorrow - I'll be working on some goofey present for one of the crazy DSILs "scooba Dooba" by Raise the Roof - which is a do it, get it done, play with the nice floss by just get it done kind of piece. Then back to the next dessert. Like that term - maybe I'll stitch in lieu of food dessert - the Weight Watchers thing....

Thanks for the visual & tactile description, Sue.

I think so - we looked at it in the shop last week (I haven't worked on it in a while) and both the owner (Cindy) and I agreed it looked better than we expected - whatever that means. Granted I did change some colors - LOL - and I'm very happy with it on the pale blue ground.

I'm down to the part I inserted instead of the words, another row of knit stitch, and the rosebuds again. I did them with the hand-painted glissen gloss silk, as they looked kind of insipid the first time in just plain silk (even the gloriana which was a subtle shading).

As soon as I get it done it'll be one of the first things on the new .mac site. I'm going to follow Elizabeth's example - and set up a stitching blog thing - thought mine will undoubtedly look somewhat different - and I don't think there is enough server space in the world for all the UFOs.

I bought fabric for the Sweet Potato Vine, which I want to start - although I may buy a different piece (this is 32 ct, and I'd like to find some similar in 36 ct).

Anyway - got to run - off to my own personal hell of Project Runway - and being behind. Good thing - for the DC area locals - there is a 30% off couplon for G-Street fabrics - good today -Sunday. 1 per person per day. Hmmm, there's some really, really nice soft ultrasuede I was feeling the other day, and some lovely micro-ribbed cordorouy. And some devore velvet. Dang it. Got to run, ellice
