Almost Happy Dance

So, finally, the now "stupid" Summer Garden Sampler from VS is done, practically. All but 2 little tiny backstitchs to go in. All the french knots done. But, when I went to put on the beads last night - none of the needles that fit the beads would handle the silk. So, after stripping several lengths of silk into that squiggly knotty mess when it doesn't fit I gave up. DH came home, looked - said "how pretty" and then proceeded to look at the hysterically messy back. Laughing. OK - so, I still have to weave the ends in after cutting the away knots that are all over. And go buy a big-eye needle for beading. I tried 4 different needles, but couldn't find where my big-eye one is stashed. Darn it.

So, almost Happy. OTOH - it does look pretty good from the front. And no one will see the incredible mess of the back - but this definitely will have to be a bell pull, I believe. And it let me start on the "ye olde coffeehouse" that Donna & I both bought on our DC Stitching Post outing. Yeah.

Hoping to post a pic of the finished piece - with beads attached - tomorrow!

I've had the problem of not having a needle that would fit the beads. Solution was to use the needle to pull the thread through the fabric, unthread the needle, put the thread through the bead, re-thread the needle, go through the fabric.

I empathize with your bead/needle problem. I was finishing up "Mermaid's Tiny Treasures," which came with some tiny, tiny pearls to go on it -- but my beading needle (long and really, really, thin, almost flexible!) wouldn't go through *any* of the pearls! So I eventually gave up and just used Mill Hill beads instead.

Ah, the best-laid plans, as they say....

The box is almost done (Mermaid is mounted on lid of fabric box). I'll try to post a photo when all is done. It's for DD's 19th birthday on Sunday -- and I can only work on it when she's not home. (I wish she'd be working the night shift this week, for my own convenience, but it's been days for *days*!)

I think I'll just buy another big-eye beading needle. I have some - just don't know where right now - and they work well- very long and flexible with the eye in the middle - kind of flexes to open. But, thanks for the idea.

LOL - you should contact the designer and ask her what she used to put them on, etc. After all - she is local. Lives pretty close to Donna (and in the same EGA chapter).

Well, there is always that middle of the night skulk around thing. Or just don't do "real work". I'm sure it's gorgeous - can't wait to see the finished piece pic!

I'm going to meet Donna to do some stitching this a.m., and will pick up a new needle that darn well better work - plus, I'll be in Vienna and can go to Star's Beads and they have tons of supplies - so I know I'll find something. Do you need me to get you anything?

Thanks, but I'm set! (Probably for the next 30 years, judging by my stash!, LOL!)

We were very, very good girls at Scarlet Thread. Although she did tempt us by telling us she'd gotten some new Drawn Thread stuff in. And there is the

25% off Super Bowl Sunday sale. I will be at the CAPS game til about 4 - so no way I'll make it (though I'm working on the surrogate or some such thing). Because, well, while the new designs were nice - there was an older one that I really, really, liked. Which is calling loudly. Treasure box.

Chart with the silks included. Darn it. And for Cheryl - we saw the "who knew" charts - IIRC she's lusting for either the Autumn Fairy or the Mermaid one - they're nice. But, we didn't buy - except some really little stuff. And a great gadget for DH's and one for Donna - a penlight cum laser pointer with a magnet base and the light on a 6" flex neck - for only $5. Excellent trinket.

At the bead store (Star's Beads) I only bought 2 "Big Eye" needles - so now I'll definitely have to finish the Summer Garden thing. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. One of those. Just totally resisted - although I did pick up the newsletter and may just have to take the Dichroic Glass class I've been lusting to do.
