Where to find short beading needles?

'cause I'm striking out.... I can find short and I can find fine enough for the Mill Hill petites, but not both except the needle that can in the Mill Hill kit.... I either need miles of floss to use the longer needles or have to keep switching needles.

I have a packet of size 10 quilting needles, called sharps, that are very thin and only about an inch or so. I doubt they would be any harder to thread then a quilting needle. Maybe they even come smaller then a 10.

I would be glad to send you the packet I have if you think that would work?

Adding to my note--I just went to look and discovered that the packet with the tiny, short needles is named betweens.

I use #9 quilting needles, I think. They're killer sharp and a bear to thread, but I've rarely found a bead they won't go through.

I know that I have them. We get them in bulk packages, and little packets. You definitely can't stitch well with the little beading needles - but if you want some your stuff is sitting alongside Lucille's on my DR table - I can throw you in at least a couple of needles.

Lucille, I don't think those size 10 quilting sharps will go thru the MH petites. I have the size 10 or 11 beading needles, short - they're smaller it seems to me than the quilting sharps. But, good idea. I've been giving

2 of these little ones to the students in my classes with beads - and they all buy the colonial extra fine threader - works like a charm. Well worth the $1.

I also buy the "big eye" needles at the beading store - they're just long, thin wire, that's essentially 2 pieces soldered at the ends, so when you flex it the big section of the middle opens for threading. They're not fast to stitch with, but do fit most beads, and are easy to thread.

Please - this Mill Hill piece really does need to be beaded as you do the cross stitch to lie right. (one spot, you are supposed to do the beads then stitch to nestle it just right)

And since there are 3 colors (all translucent) that are attached with different colors, I'm going nuts trying to either change needles to use the little one they sent or using a standard length beading needle my small frame.

And if I thought a standard beading needle was bad.....

When I see quilting needles siza 10 and sometimes 11 or 12 I stock up! THey are sharp or tweens but will thread with hand quilting thread and go thru size 11 or mill hill beads.

Currently working on a reproduction grisaille pincushion. Lauguna 28 and size 11 beads some are Mill Hill. I'm using tent stitch and just grey thread. Floss needs to be waxed to work as well. I have been stitching bead"Cross stitch" for years. Always double your thread. The tent stitch gives more support and the neutral thread saves time and frustration.

The Christmas band sampler - it might be OOP. I got it from Linda Lewis and am doing it for my aunt and uncle.

That's a really pretty one. I always like doing the Mill Hill kits. I find them fun. I just ordered three of the new Tiny Treasured Diamonds to do for my brother and his fiancee. I find them a nice break from my big projects.

I've got one Mill Hill WIP - it is the garden shed one and I'll finish it someday. I've done several of the pins and they are fun to wear.
