Double ended needles

Has anyone seen these lately? Out of curiosity I just looked for them on one or two sites - and they appear to have vanished!

If only they`d been shorter they`d have been less whippy and unmanageable. They were a good idea poorly executed.

I saw some lately but can't think where. Seems to me it may have been a fabric shops . If I come across them again, do you want me to send you some Pat??? ruby

I think ( assume) she may mean those embroidery/stitching needles that come out a few years ago, John James needles I think. They could be threaded from either end. I never really understood what use they were. Ruby

I have some - they threaded in the middle. If Pat wants them, they're hers.

How do you use double ended needles? Barbara

I have never used them, but I understand the theory is that if you have a stand, you can use both hands, and you dont neem to turn the needle every time it passes through the fabric, so it is faster to stitch. Jim.

I knew there was something different about them but couldn't quite remember what today. You are correct. But I never did get what advantage they were, tried them and all that happened was thread twisted etc. ruby

The theory was you pushed down with one hand and up with the other. I could never get a rhythm going, but if you used a floor stand it might work better.

I don`t use a stand , and knowing myself i would have ended pricking both hands !!!! mirjam

That`s very kind, Ruby - I`d like some very much, especially if they`ve made them a bit shorter. They`re such a good idea as it saves a lot of extra movement, and they really speed things up. The only thing was that when they first came out they were much too long, which made them a bit whippy to use - I was just wondering if they`d got around to reducing the length a bit.

I hope all is well with you.

They haven't reduced the length. Personally, I found they didn't save any time, as I'm a 2 handed stitcher already. In your situation, I could see how they might.

IIRC, at market I thought I heard that those needles were going to be discontinued. But who knows.
