OT: How do you acces the 'net?

OUCh - can't you get some kind of combined better pricing with your phone service? What about the AOL broadband thing?

As I think you know - we're in this community that Verizon invested in, so we have FIOS. While I hate dealing with the Verizon business side of things

- did I say HATE, and I do mean that - the technical end is fabulous. So, with having fiber to the house, and ethernet or wireless in, we have very high-speed access. Which is linked to our FIOS tv service as well. Stupidly, I also have them for phone and wireless. Our FIOS internet is included in the HOA thing - so I believe we do really well on that. Whole bill is ~ $160, including trash/recycling, snow removal, common grounds upkeep, and the internet. But, our TV part of this was recently broken out once we went from satellite to FIOS, and that is pricey - though great signals. And our phone as well - I've been thinking of switching to something like Vonage or the like for regular phone.

We had COX cable modem at our last house in Fairfax Cty. Our other friends in Reston had DSL, and I think they now have cable. IF you have a bunch of people accessing the net - the higher speed/bandwidth matters.

Sorry if that wasn't any help.

That's understandable. Donna, myself, and Caryn, too - live in a very high-tech corridor. Particularly Donna & I, as if you ever are in DC, and do the drive to Dulles airport - the sides of the toll-road are full of software companies (Symantec, ORACLE,uunet, etc) and other high-tech (engineering, sciences) companies. Consequently - it seems that in our neighborhoods there is a lot of computer demand, people telecommuting, or carrying their work home with them, or being IT geeks.

Where I live, we actually decided to use the ethernet in the house (though we're fiber up to the router) because there is so much wireless around us that you actually start losing bandwidth due to the overlapping. A problem that exists with people using wireless in condos, high-rises, etc. Not only do we have the included FIOS to the houses for internet, but many of our neighbors also have DirectTV.

It's just a different, urban way of life. OTOH, I guess that in other urban areas, the high-tech thing isn't quite so bad. Personally, I'd rather have a horse, and some other space.

Oh I had that situation last night, after my server vhad been down "Upgrading" (???) all day for the 6th time in a week.

I left the call very little the wiser as I think, from the unintelligible accent, that I was speaking to a call centre in Mumbai!!! Don`t get me wrong - I like the Indian people, but I do wish they take more care in selecting ones with better English for these "help" lines!!!

A Chinese scholar was lecturing when all the lights in the auditorium went out. He asked the members of the audience to raise their hands. As soon as they had all complied, the lights went on again. He then said, "Prove wisdom of Old Chinese saying: 'Many hands make light work.'"

Giggle! Like I said, the geek in me won out. My husband's uncle used WebTV for quite awhile. He refused to get a computer until his son and daughters bought it for him. He is as web savvy the average teen these days..... C
