Baseball Swap

Howdy!

Sign-ups are going on right now for the Baseball Swap. "The usenet group Rec.crafts.textiles.quilting (r.c.t.q) has an annual fabric charm square (100% cotton 6.5" squares) swap based on Major League Baseball games. Much gloating and fun results. This list has been created to facilitate the swappers' communications (i.e. gloating)."

And you don't need to know a thing about baseball. You just need to know how to gloat and have fun -- we'll help coach you if needed. :)

Sandy,

Can you tell us a bit about how it works? Do you swap baseball themed fabric or do you send everyone fabric when your favorite team loses?

Fabric can be any good quality quilting cotton (our rule of thumb is "send what you'd like to receive"), but no flannels. No special theme.

We swap 6.5" squares. If you back the Cubs, and they lose to the Cardinals, you'll owe each Cardinal backer a square. If the Cubs win, they'll each owe you a square. The games aren't netted out: if the Cubs win 8 games and lose

4 to the Cards, you get 8 squares from and send 4 to each Cardinals backer.

We settle up twice a year -- after the All Star Break and after the season is over. When it's time to settle up, you get a lovely report telling you how many squares you owe to each person in the swap, complete with labels. You bag them up, send them to a "flinger" (me this year, but it rotates), who sorts them and sends your winnings back.

Lots and lots of fun -- I hope we'll see you there!

For those of you who are "considering" this. Don't wait - just jump right on in. I've been doing this for ???? years and decided to back out last year. Boy, did I regret it. I was having major withdrawals when it came time to cut and bag my squares.

Hi Sandy! It is that time already? I did the baseball swap a few years ago and still have a great pile of those squares! Quite a few had a baseball print and I've used those in some scrappy Quilts of Valor. I liked the fabric I received but not knowing anything about Baseball, it wasn't my niche. Y'all have fun though. Uh oh. I haven't signed up yet Cindy. I was thinking about taking the year off.....not that I've been in it for all that long. Hummmm, maybe I should reconsider.
