We had two elective choices at our school: French or Commerce and Latin or Geography. I desperately needed to do French and so my friend, Christine agreed we'd do that together. In return, I had to agree to do Geography for her. So that's what we did: French and Geography.

I've *always* regretted that decision, but when you're a kid in a huge big high school and you need that special mate to sit next to... well... y'do these things. Sigh.

I learned Latin for years, but don't remember my vocabulary well enough to translate everything. We did learn one rhyme, (probably unofficially!), which needs no translation:

Caesar adsum jam forte Brutus adarat Caesar sic in omnibus Brutus inisat.

I know just enough Latin to get myself in trouble, and was simply too lazy to get my Latin dictionary from the other room for all the words I couldn't figure out. (The only line I could get all the words, my translation didn't make sense. Now I see why.)

The motto of the Royal Marines is "per mare per terram". Official translation "by land and by sea". Very unofficial translation (and not within earshot of any Royal Marines) "by horse and by tram". Bruce

Speaking of coffee on keyboards, I've had not one, but two such incidents recently. The first one involved DD maniacally swatting away a bee, which had inadvertently entered the house through a hole in the fly-wire. She knocked over her (full) cup of (milk and sugar) coffee and the whole lot went into my keyboard. This is why my q,w,a,s,z and x keys are still sticky and the y and u keys sometimes don't work. I keep meaning to pull it apart and clean it. I will - soon!

The second incident involved DS, who indulges in a bit of wild hand-flapping when he gets excited (NB. DS is a bit autistic). Well, he was kicking a good bit of butt playing 'Stronghold' and hence flapping merrily away when - you guessed it - the whole cup of coffee (milk and sugar) went into my mouse. It now sticks and the right button won't work. I'm going to pull the mouse apart on the same occasion as I pull the keyboard apart. Soon. Honest.

Speaking of mice, a funny thing happened last night involving one of my real mice. Little Diego was mooching around, having his late-nite snack of birdseed and carrot. DH happened to walk close by the cage while munching on his own late-nite snack, consisting of a bit of peanut butter toast. Quick-as-a-wink, Diego shot over to the side of the cage, sat up on his haunches and *squeaked* at DH as he passed by!!! I'm quite positive he was asking for a bit of that toast!

Even stranger, DH (who professes not to like my mice - hah! Yeah, right!) actually shared the toast with Diego and stuck his finger in to pat him on his little head. Whereupon Diego did the only sensible thing and bit DH on the finger. Go Diego.
