Hi Mirjam,

All the books you've mentioned contain excellent info on their individual subjects....I'm fortunate to have these and other similar books in my design library.....I can't resist books about textiles, needlework and costumes!

I love looking through these books for inspiration.....I've been fascinated for years by the use of embroideries & embellishments used as surface design. As a painter, I only create on two dimensions but with the addition of stitches and things, the "flat" painting becomes three dimensional!

It's one of the reasons I've been drawn to creating applique / quilt panels, these techniques add a whole new dimension to my work.....something I want to continue exploring...... More Art quilts are now feature painted base images that are then usually quilted.....many go on to be embroidered and embellished as well with even more dimensional techniques....the creativity list is endless....so many techniques and ideas to choose from and combine for the best artistic results!

The currently popular "ethnic look" featured in the fall fashion magazines show a great deal of hand embroideries, lots of interesting embellishments including a heavy use of beads, tassels, pom poms, buttons, coins, etc. All pulled together with striking color & pattern combinations.

It's not only in clothing that embroideries & embellishments are popularly used....interior designers use a great deal of trims with hand embroidered fabrics that can decorate everything in a room!

Whole villages in India, factories in China and other countries with a tradition of hand crafts have been hired by designers to produce unique embroideries and hand woven fabrics for a myriad of uses.

Sometimes i send friends of mine a colour zerox of my works , that show each stich , and they like to see mt different way of using materials/techniques... I always have my camera with me , andif i see some interesting Texture i ask permission to take a photo , i look at nature , the mountain i live on , the seaside , art books , clothes, the way people wear their clothes etc,,,, >books in my design library.....I can't resist books about textiles, The Bank thinks i am paying Rent to the book shops !!!

I have more books i could name ,,,, if it helps people here to go look for them... one of the Best , most Original embroidery books i got lately is Alas in Hebrew , and was reprinted , a woman in the 50`s embroidered local Flora with legends that her father wrote,,, Lately i saw the original works ,,,,, amazing ....

A friend of mine , sho started as a painter , is now a great 3D Fiberartist ,, she adds `everything` to her work, They are so heavy that we have problems sending them .... but SO marvelous, that in the last exhibition they looked like Vitrage!!!!

I always add all kinds of techniques and `stuff` to my works .... the material tells me what it needs !!!

Yes i am facunated with the new works , but i go my own way ,, i collect things and later find i add them to my art ,,, I also have a list of friends ` needed materials ,,,, and send it to them . mirjam
