It has been my experience that Search Press books are *always* great.
Those books on Blackwork were at a recent class I took from Tanja Berlin on Blackwork as books she recommended. Some info on Tanja:
HTH, Jeanine in Canada
WE have the Search Press Intro to Blackwork book in the shop - it's very nice (IIRC Donna recently acquired it). And have had some of their other books. Are you thinking about getting Marion Scoular's book, as well? If you have the RSN Green book, there is also a good section on blackwork - with some nice examples of shading, and some projects. The Intro book has good band motifs with explanations.
I think there's been a revival of interest in blackwork as an after-effect of the film "the Other Boleyn Girl." In the space of a few days we had several people, not particularly experienced stitchers - come in saying they wanted to do Blackwork, or Tudor embroidery. Sold the Search press intro book, and several of Lynn Skinner's books - Introductory and the "Bands from...Augsberg 1545"
I have the Three Dimensional Flowers book and think it is wonderful. I want lots of the books now...
