Long and Short Stitch Embroidery - Trish Burr

I ordered this book last September. It has repeatedly been backordered. Has anyone actually seen a copy? Did it sell out right away and is waiting for reprint? Anyone have any info?

Hello Jeanine

I've seen this book in various tempting brochures, but as yet not in the flesh. If the awful heat abates in the next week I might seek out a book shop or two and see if it is in stock. Her last book was so lovely I'm sure this one will be too. I'll be sure to let you know if I find a copy.

Cheers

Looks like it is backordered. However you may find Helen M Stevens Embroidered Gardens (Masterclass Embroidery) in stock and you may want to look at that as well.

I believe I was just eyeing this book at the local JoAnn Fabric and Cr*p store here last week. It most almost completely floral designs - very nicely done.

I usually have a coupon good for 40% off any regularly priced item - willing to pick it up for you if it's still there.

I went to amazon.ca to see what it said, and ended up ordering it, of course. My shipment date is supposed to be about March 28-April 6. You can get a used copy from the States (shipment about 2 weeks) for more than double the cost of a new copy. Since it was released in August 2006, I suspect American orders were filled first, and they are waiting for a reprint before they fill orders in other countries.

Hi Dora, It was amazon.ca that I ordered from back in September - it's taking FOREVER and they keep backordering it every time the promised delivery date gets close. They're usually so reliable, that's why I wondered if there were circumstances that I didn't know about.

Well, similarly, I ordered the Royal Needlework book last July and get an e-mail every once in the while telling me it has been backordered. Of course that was my own fault because I asked that it be shipped with my other books, and they weren't immediately available. By the time my other books were in stock, the Needlework one had gone out. It's available elsewhere but at a higher price of course.

Amazon doesn't seem to carry a very large stock of such books, and they may wait until orders from these smaller publishers accumulate a bit to get a better discount. Who knows? And it is coming from Australia I expect.

Meanwhile it's not available through Chapters either.

Jeanine, I don't have that particular Helen Stevens book, but I do have several others that I bought at a seminar. There is no wonder that any of her books are backordered - they are all wonderful!

You might try one of the specialty needlework book sellers. I don't have a particular one to recommend, but I think they may get preference on Helen Stevens' books. Anne

Hi Anne, Just to clear up a misunderstanding... Helen Stevens is not the author of Long and Short Stitch Embroidery, Trish Burr is. :-)) Didn't want you searching forever for this book title with the wrong author or vice versa. Jeanine in Canada

Just out of curiousity I googled Helen Stevens and found her website. Nice stuff. I thought some of you might enjoy it. There is also a student gallery if you roam around the site.

Hi Jeanine

I finally made it to a favourite bookstore, and I am now the proud owner of this Trish Burr book.

It is utterly lovely, and well worth the AU$39.95 price tag. If you desire for more information, just let me know.

Cheers

Thanks Joanne! Isn't it beautiful? A lovely lady in the States sent it to me... now I want to see Redoute's Finest Flowers in Embroidery also by Trish Burr! I think I'll wait though and try some of the techniques out from this book first. Jeanine in Canada
