A fellow stitcher and I are trying to decipher some old Swedish patterns for pulled and drawn thread. These don't have any "how to" diagrams, they just list the stitches used (in Swedish) and show a (bad) photo of the finished piece. Neither of us has much experience with pulled thread and no experience with drawn (other than hemstitching, pretty much).
There is a round portion of this work that has a pattern of stitches which appear to be pulled (but I'm thinking that maybe there is some drawn work too) stitches. The result is diagonal rows of empty circles with a cross-hair of the ground fabric in the centre. The pattern of the circles creates a six-sided star around the outside of each pulled circle. LOL! Pretty vague, I know. I have found a picture in Christine Bishop's Schwalm Embroidery book on page 26. It is a pic of Dresden work and she hasn't listed the stitches used for it. This is close to the stitch we're looking for, but not exact. I can't seem to find any pic on the 'net and the friend has the pages so I can't send anyone a scan at the moment. Hoping someone will know what I mean. TIA, Jeanine in Canada
