I don`t actually CARE what you think.
Yes, I know. It's what makes conversations with you so useless. I had forgotten that. I'm sorry.

The reason why Muslims do things like the London bombings is that they take their religion too seriously, and do not tolerate anyone who makes fun of it, or some such. Are they unique in this? Of course not. Most, if not all religions, at some point in time, have been intolerant of people who are "infidels". The Romans did all sorts of nasty things to the early Christians. The Christians burnt heretics at the stake. Can you imagine what would have happened to Gilbert and Sullivan had they written Gondoliers when Gallileo was alive? Burning at the stake would have been too good for them. Recently a picture was circulated depicting Pope Benedict XVI giving a Nazi salute. Was this in extremely bad taste? Of course it was. Whoever did it should, IMHO, be told that this was behaviour that normal societies do not like. But to take drastic action? Absolutely not. Will Muslims, like some other religions, learn to be tolerant of people who criticize and make fun of their religion? The is surely the 64 trillion dollar question. I sure as h*ll hope so.

I have been, but I did ask nicely for you to fix it. I guess I shan't move them myself anymore. We'll see how long things work that way.

There are over one million Muslims in this world. What makes you think that it is ok to make blanket statements about all of them?
Elizabeth
Sorry. The trouble with not being pedantic, and trying to keep messages short. However, I think you must have mispelled *m*illion. There are about 600,000 Muslims in Canada alone. I suspect you mean
*b*illion. But to return to your point. Let me rephrase. "Will those Muslims who feel criticism of their religion warrants revenge killings, terrorizing innocent people, causing general mayhem, etc., learn to be tolerant of people who criticize and make fun of their religion?". There, is that better? However, I still feel that the vast majority of Muslims will refuse to "snitch" on those of their bretheren who encourage and perform killings and acts of violence against "infidels".-- Jim Cripwell. Yes, I did misspell billion. Thank you. I seem to do that all the time.
That is better, thank you very much.

I really don't know what you mean, Pat. I'm no more humourless, perverse, or self-satisfied than you are. I'm not the one that constantly resorts to ad hominem when I can't win an argument. And it's interesting to me that Jim took my meaning without being offended, but you are offended for him.
As for revenge, the point of the .sig is that I don't seek it, because I
*do* live well. It's always interesting to me, though, that some people fail to grasp that point.Elizabeth
Fine with me. If you think getting revenge on everyone is my ambition, then you've never seen me anyway. The point of the .sig isn't revenge, it's getting on with one's life no matter what. I'm sorry that's over your head.

Well I say, just shoot the whole lot of the buggers! Good god man - what is the Empire coming to ?
God's got it in for the UK lol
Part of something just forwarded to me today, that sums up our general attitude!
So if those bloody cowards with their sodding beards, heads with tea-towels wrapped round them, and their "jihads" against innocent women and children think they can do better than Hitler, or Napoleon or Phillip the Second of Spain or any of the rest of them, well they'll be in a for a shock.
An "islamic" web site claimed that "London was ablaze with panic and fear" after Thursday. As one wag at Kings Cross station noted on a sign underneath a huge Union Jack: "London ablaze with panic and fear"...
"MY ARSE".

Actually I was passing a comment on how Jim's attitude struck me. It was very Colonel Blimpish.
I would totally condemn any harassment of Muslims and immigrants - that would solve nothing.
I have been lurking around this newsgroup for some time and, judging by the vitriolic comments by all sides over the topics of Islam and Christianity (and also the Palestians and Jewish problems), there is obviously no hope whatsoever of tolerance by some members of either faith.
To judge, and then categorise, all christians or muslims by the actions of an extreme few is a sad reflection on Society. All most people of any faith want is a quiet safe life in which to raise their families and live their daily lives.
If the actions of the extremists produce this reaction amongst the members of a sewing group then we all should be ashamed of ourselves. We are mostly all members of supposedly democratic civilised societies: one mark of which is to accommodate all factions and faiths. That is not to say that those who step outside the bounds should not be punished, and those who advocate violence, intolerance or terror should not be silenced, particularly if they are not citizens of the country. No-one should condone or rejoice in any act of terrorism whosoever commits it.
Sadly, it seems to me, that most wars are caused by a clash of faiths or ideologies: witness the English Civil War, the Spanish Inquisition, Northern Ireland, World War 2 and so on. It is about time we all grew up and realised that God in all the major faiths, by whatever name he/she is known, has the same basic tenets.
Having said my piece, I will now retire back to my lurking!

I do not judge "muslims by the actions of an extreme few"; I judge their actions when it comes to harboring terrorists, by what the vast majority do. That is they keep silent, and refuse to cooperate with law enforcement and security agencies of the nation which they have chosen to call home. And as long as Muslims, particularly Canadian Muslims, keep their silence in this way, I will continue to condemn the *vast majority* of Muslims. As I have noted many times, beware ladies wearing Muslim headscarves.

It must be hard to live in another country and hear about close relatives being tortured and bombed without some feeling of sympathy. I also think that it would be hard to change the way that one dresses or the other cultural differences. If you were to move to the south of France, would your wife go topless at a beach? Some things are difficult to feel comfortable doing. My friend from Saudi Arabia felt quite naked with bare arms. Judy
