Same here. Pat's obviously putting in some coding that makes her posts self-destruct when responded to! :)

Thank you Karen - the old bat will not necessarily credit that what I say is true. However, having loaned a lap top for the trip, I detest them. Lap top + dial up = nightmare!

She is going to HAVE to believe it now! Hope she has not already left for Kent yet.

Funny, that combination has worked well for me for 8 years.

I don't like the aspect of 'what you see is what you get' - over three years I have added another hard drive and a DVD burner to this desk top. I know I could add a mouse to a lap top (I found that pad frustrating) but then one is getting away from the lap top concept.

It's portability was the only attractive feature, but then even portable dial up failed. Once you leave your servers area, even with the right numbers to dial, you are at the mercy of other servers to honour another server. They are supposed to, but didn't west of Ontario. Dawne suggested maybe it was western separation operating lol

AOL is available worldwide. I can go anywhere I like and dial into a local AOL number, or I can use the hotel's internet connection and check my mail on AOL.com.

Not going there! You know my opinion of aol. I prefer to do without lol

Sheena, Did Jim tell you his opinion of AOL when we met? He would rather have a daughter in a cat-house than on AOL!! )The twit is till on AOL).

We didn't happen to mention it, it would have been fun. It is my nightmare and I understand, a nightmare for anyone who tries to send out mailings. Aol takes it upon itself to decide something is spam which isn't and frustrates me. On their account I have broken my list down to aol and the rest, I have reached the point where I send it out and if the aol ones promptly bounce back, I just think, to hell with it.

I would not want my server deciding what mail I should, or should not, receive. I would pay them for that???????

Verizon, in it's infinite wisdom decided to block messages to and from the future DIL in Japan. I wrote them a pleading email...........and they took her address off the whitelist, and all is going through right now.

Gillian

I understand that can happen with certain countries on account of spam, some countries have more spammers than others! NOT that I am suggesting your future DIL is one!

When is the wedding? Here, or there? That would be a wonderful trip.

A very informal ceremony ( more a legality) in December. I plan to fly out next Spring for a visit. I had really hoped to meet Ayako's mother, who has cancer, but just heard yesterday the poor lady has taken a BIG turn for the worse, and they don't expect her to live more than a couple of days. She had so hoped to meet Mike, and told Aya that she could die in peace, since her daughter would be a married lady! Aya is on the express train north, and Mike is so frustrated being on the ship, and unable to be there with her!

On the fun subject of death, my MIL died late yesterday evening. It was peaceful, and she was well doped up with morphine. Jim and I feel so relieved it is all over for her. Although she was in no pain once we knew of the gangrene, it must have been hellishly painful while it was developing, and she was hiding it from all!

Gillian

I'll write more later in a personal email.

(lots of snippage)

Oh Gill, I am so sad for you and yours. I understand the relief part too!

Cheryl

I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you are comforted by the fact that you certainly did all you could to make her life easier, despite the problems she presented and that she's finally at peace.

As my grandmother would say: "May her memory be for a blessing."

Lucille

Sorry for your loss Gill - but she wanted to go so much - so now everyone should be at peace. You were so good to her - you deserve a pat on the back for sure.

Sharon (N.B.) ............................................................................ .......

I had but I`m back - OK, I`ve removed the bloody signature so now stop dripping!!! ;-))
