Don`t know about laptop + dial-up - but can`t see why it should cause problems. Laptop + broadband is fine!

According to what other posters say, after clicking on your posts and the same thing happening to them, it's on account of the placement of your signature.

If not that, I'd put my money on you top posting all the time lol

So it was you who had 'gorn funny' cos it ain't happening now!

Have a good trip you old GOW ? I don't mean one of those literal trips you are in the habit of taking, but the trip to Richards.

Great, thanks - caught up with all his "Outlaws" and had a high old time. Had dinner at the hotel once frequented by Neldon and Lady Hamilton, too - about 100 yards from Richard`s house.

This visit was the first time we`ve seen the English channel actually BLUE!!!

My back has gone - a combination of Richard`s ancient and steep spiral staircase and his rather hard bed! I`m sure that Tom is right when he says it`s haunted - I got fed up with struggling with the stairs every time I wanted the loo, so spent the rest of the night on the sofa and TWICE something woke me up by sighing in my ear. It doesn`t feel bad, though.

I don`t like bottom posting.

Very sadly future DIL's Mom died on Thursday, and DS is still at sea. DFDIL sends text messages on her cellphone, and seems to be doing well. She is 35, and appears to be the "organiser" in her family. Thanks for the condolences, Tegan

Oh Gillian,

That is so sad. My regards to your son and FDIL.

Bottom posting makes everything easier to follow.

It was `cos I`d told it to put the sig on all messages to save me putting it in manually - stupid OE does that, it seems.

pat P

Not IMO. Don`t like wading through all the previous stuff to read the hit line. If the hit line is interesting enough then I can see what went before.

If I have been following a thread, so long as it is bottom posted, I can just zoom down to the next response. If I come in on a thread (that happens sometimes because some posts always seem to be missing) I don't have to go on a search to find out what the original post said, I can neatly follow it down the page, then see the newest response.

I know that bottom posting is regarded as good netiquette and I can see the reason why. So I do it. While I can be sarcastic etc. I generally try to polite - at least I think I do lolololol

I agree with Pat on this one ... I like to see right off the bat if I'm interested in a particular post ... and you really can't tell by the subject line any more (as in the above) - I don't want to wade thru who said what when and where - I want to know NOW if I want to continue to read the rest ... bottom posting is a nuisance to me.

Sharon (N.B.) ............................................................................ ....

So change the subject line then!!!

General consensus is that top posting is bad netiquette, really for obvious reasons.

If you edit and bottom post, everything is concise and clear.

French law does ban the wearing of crucifixes or any other outward symbol of religion in their schools, at least.

Elizabeth

Crap. And don`t bring up bad netiquette - that won`t wash on here in any case! And when did you, I OR Sharon ever bow to "general consensus"? LOL! I only bottom posted on here because I HAD read through the lot and it suited me. ;-))

Pat P

And I appreciated the fact you bottom posted ! Do you expect me to remember what was said from one day to the next ??? Huh ?

The things you write disappear when someone tries to quote them because you have your .sig file with the "--" on top. So the quoting person's newsreader writes "Pat Porter wrote" but leaves out the quote because newsreaders delete anything after "--" when it's against the left margin. That's why I asked if you would please fix your .sig file placement.

Elizabeth

No one was overzealous. It was the newsreader settings, which you appear to have fixed on your end. Thank you.

Elizabeth
