I feel that in countries like France, when they ban the hajib, they should also ban Christian girls from wearing crucifixes, being agnostic perhaps, the two things equate equally to me.

I agree. More exactly, I don't think that everyone needs to look the same. People need to get used to differences. Judy
Where do you get your information that the *vast majority* harbor terrorists? Do you personally *know* any Muslims? And do you *know* they're harboring terrorists or information about terrorists? Have you turned in your great source of knowledge to the security powers that be?
And another point: from an earlier post, you stated that fundamentalists become terrorists due to religious intolerance and being made "fun of" (07/30/05), so it seems to me your part of the CAUSE, not part of the SOLUTION. If you want change to happen among the Muslim community, perhaps you better start with your own attitude. Your ideas are despicable.

They did. I am not sure of the exact wording but France bans any "large and obvious" religious symbols. This includes crucifixes and Sikh turbans.

I must admit I dont actually *know* about these things. I do however believe that the culture that derives from the Muslim religion teaches Muslims that they owe their first duty to other Muslims, not to the country in which they live. In the UK, right at this moment, the authorities are expending huge sums of money trying to find where there might be other terrorist cells waiting for an opportunity to spread murder and mayhem. *Someone* in the UK Muslim community knows who they are, and what their plans are. The UK authorities have stated clearly that they cannot get this information without the cooperation of the whole of the Muslim community. Since they still have not got this information, then they clearly do not have the cooperation of the vast majority on Muslims. Can you name any other group of immigrants to the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USA, etc, *except* the Muslims, where residents of those nations fear that such a group might harbor terrorists? If it is not that a vast majority of Muslims will not "snitch" on their bretheren, then why is it that *only* Muslims seem to be a problem? Do you really think that in the near future the UK Home Secretary can rise in the House of Commons and say that, because of the cooperation of the vast majority of Muslims, there is no longer a Muslim terrorist threat in the UK? I am fully aware that the security authorities in Canada know all about how to deal with a Muslim threat, to the extent that this is possible. They dont need any help from me. After all they did deal with Maher Arar, didn't they?

I am surprised you would mention him, since they dealt so incorrectly with an innocent man. I hope he is going to sue the pants off everyone he can!
Does conform to the ways of the country extend as far as dress code? If that's true then I should have had safety pins through my skin and red/purple/green/blue hair when I visited London some years back because that's what lots of the young people were wearing back then.
Does wearing what you consider "odd" dress mean they can't or won't cooperate with the law?

As a matter of fact we did; but not in the south of France, but The Netherlands, where it is not just topless but the full monty! Jill and I sort of encouraged each other. I will admit we were somewhat more discreet than some of the natives. The Dutch beaches are further north than those on the Mediterranean, and while they can be sunny, the winds can discourage sunbathing. So, like the other locals, we bought wind screens; two of them. The were just a strip of cloth, about 4 feet high, held up with poles, guy lines etc. Place these discreetly, and one can have a delightful time being in the buff.

Who says he is innocent? Most of the evidence at the judicial enquiry was so secret, it has not been made public. I am not sure if the enquiry has as yet submitted its report.

Jim apparently does!
Ok, I won't be ridiculous but do you really think that wearing a head scarf is the same as walking around naked? I personally think some of the hats worn in Great Britain are hideous, but since it isn't against the law to wear one I guess it's fine for royalty to do so. Some very orthodox Jewish people dress differently and really do live differently but they bother no one and that makes it ok and acceptable so why not the same thing for the Muslim community. I believe that since the Muslim community in England is so large they probably will eventually fine tune and adapt to your ways.
I just will not believe that the majority are terrorists. Rather I hope that most of the people would just like to be left alone to live their lives. Very probably many of them ran away from their countries to live a nicer life and given some time will learn how to live peacefully and happily in their new homes.. I sure hope I'm right and most of the immigrrants aren't terrorists.

However it is set, when I click on reply, your message disappears.
You said something to the effect that people don't go around nude, I said that Jim does lol
Well . . . if you would put your signature below your writings, we might all have an easier time trying to decipher who said what. :-) Or not having to do gymnastics to get your posts from one message to the next. Dianne
You were over zealous with your editing - you made it look as if *I* said "Jim does"! Just couldn`t remember having said anything like that, but it IS late!
I`ll be away for a few days - off down to Deal to see Richard and meet his futiure in-laws - and to catch up with his OUT-laws since they got back from Oz and NZ!!! So you can all have a bit of peace.
Just got lots of herbs growing like crazy - what WOULD you stuff a guardian angel with? I have parsley, Thyme, chives and Sage getting really rampant!
Innocent? Our Jane? She must have been on her best behaviour when you met her! She`s a good shot, anyway, and an atheist like me - so guardian angels beware!!! Richard`s the agnostic, Sue`s the Catholic. Pretty good mix.

That is just it - I didn't edit anything! I am telling you when I click Reply to your posts, everything is automatically gone, just leaving your name at the top of the post.
Now perhaps someone else could try it and see what happens ?
I did my duty today and had Joanna's ex inlaws, very poor timing but they were here from Montreal, so what could I say ? I thought when people divorced they shed the inlaws ? I just seem to gain more and I feel old and unable to cope with all these mismatched relatives. Damn my kids, they should have stayed married, or not married, or whatever!
With going away on the trip I skipped even growing some herbs on the balcony. I do still have my Bay but it's an indoor plant now, forgot to shove it out this summer. Maybe it's not too late. You are making me fancy roast chicken with thyme and parsley stuffing lol
I meant innocent in the sense that unbeknownst to her she was being attributed as shooting angels.
Have a good trip and try to think more kindly about Muslims when you return - too late, no good chucking something at me - I ducked long before you did. I just sent a grenade back though, without the pin.
