OT: my new puppy has arrived!

TOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that my "puppy" is 6, I'm wanting another!! You're right that all you want to do is watch them. She's not a border collie, is she? I see those markings but not the long hair.

I was going to guess, but decided not to, what kind of dog is she? Puckster has a liver patch around his tale - much like your pup has the black patch. When that tail gets going, his whole butt just wiggles, I have one friend who just loves to watch it going - so cute. Bet yours will be the same.

Now I definitely want one. Her puppy paw position looks very English Springerish. Get another one now! They really like to be with another animal. Puckster is very much a "velcro" dog - always stuck to the human around - and I regretted not getting a littermate with him. But, that's part of the reason we're going to have him bred soon (for the puppy).

I had a Border Collie/Lab mix - who grew quite large. Yours should just be a little bigger than a Springer? Is it an intentional cross - she'll definitely be retrieving things, and wanting to swim all the time!

Don't be surprised if Puckster can actually see what's on TV. Puff definitely can. I know that because he will react to an animal, especially a dog or cat, on the screen even though there is absolutely no animal sound.

He once sat mesmorized for about 1/2 hour watching the stupid movie Beethoven's Fifth, which is about a St. Bernard and his puppies. I, being an obedient slave, didn't change the channel until he decided to go into the kitchen for a snack.

I should ask the vet. There's some debate about this with dogs, as to if they only see light and shadow because of the way that tv's work. They definitely don't see color as us - physiologically different eye receptors.

I totally believe it. I just don't know, understand how much they can see. Puckster definitely has gone and sat in front of the large tv when some animal show is on. Right now, though, I think he's mad at me - 'cause I'm not going out to play frisbee in the gusting wind, and the tv isn't on, and DH isn't here to amuse him, and I'm sitting here typing. Til I go back to bed. But, DH should be done with Friday night Hi School hockey and home soon.

I had almost persuaded myself to have two, but she will have company with our older dog.

My son is the lucky one as his boss has chosen another little girl from the litter, and as he works at a pub, he will see both kids grow up!

oh yes it was a deliberate cross, both parents are used in the field. Two of the pups look like labs, one black and one chocolate, and the other three are Springer lookalikes.

Our older dog isn't quite sure what it is yet! She watches her intently and has to follow wherever the pup goes. She puts her in her place though if the pup takes libertys. I haven't left them alone together yet, I'm hoping they will get along.

Ooops, pups awake, toilet duty.

That's great. When we got Puckster, I was working at the LNS quite a lot - so he'd come to the shop. We just gated him into the back workshop - he could see out, but didn't get into things - well, sort of. Just had to be careful that he didn't go in the glass cutting area (do a lot of framing). However - the cutest thing - we caught him like a cat - climbing up the gate

- his little paws thru the open grid - right up to the top, and whoops, over. Hilarious. But, when he got a bit older he learned respect for barriers so now even if a barrier is just leaning - he won't cross it.

Very cute. Ours is a field Springer as well - but we don't hunt, so he just gets other exercise. And weighs a deceptive all muscle 60 #. Nothing he can't jump - given permission.

I hope they will - sounds like she's doing the right thing. Puckster loves puppies. When we picked him - at the breeder his "dad" (Barney) was in there playing with the pups, along with Shadow the mom. One of the reasons that we were so enchanted - both canine parents playing with the pups like a human family.

That'll keep you busy! We were very lucky with this guy - house trained completely by 10 weeks - it was amazing.

Two of our dachsies were litter mates, and it was great -- when we first brought them home, they snuggled through the nights, so no yipping and whining. They've stayed really close too. They still sleep at least touching each other.

I had a full nights sleep, wow! I chanced putting both dogs together in the kitchen and apart from Clover giving pup one telling off, all was quiet until 6.30am. Only one little present too!

Yes the chocolate puppy was the runt of the litter. The breeder is keeping that one.

I took the puppy to meet the neighbours last night and she wanted to see the video. Skye watched the screen intently throughout and started crying for her litter mates so we had to turn off the volume. She could definitely see the pups on screen, her little head was going from side to side whenever they moved. Gorgeous. The older dog has never watched the TV.

Luckily she still sleeps a lot during the day, so I;m hoping to get my hardanger freebie lesson completed today for the website. I'll let you know when its up.
