Doesn't sound like the summer was too pleasant - drifting smoke is terribly hard on many people. Hope it is all gone now.

I have a friend who is excellent at word-play and I've set him on the problem.

There was a young woman from Halifax, who thought she would send her good pal a fax. . . . . . When it wouldn't go through on attempt 102, (need to pronounce it : one-oh-two) she gave up and started a game of jacks.

I don`t think it`s so much that she has no sense of humour but that she doesn`t always translate it correctly! A lot of jokes don`t survive translation from one language to another. ;-))

So they say. I heard that some are taking the issue to some EU-counsil. About that Russia didn't do as much as they could to put the fires out and prevent polluting South-Finland. We'll see, if that goes anywhere (I doubt)....

Interesting two comments. Now I'm wondering...in a very friendly way: Why must it be that either one doesn't have a sense of humor or one doesn't "get it" if one doesn't think a joke is funny. Is it not possible that particular joke simply does not amuse them? Surely you will admit that every single joke you hear or read isn't funny to you? Right? That's my experience, anyway - some are amusing and some aren't. Curious about your thoughts.

I can see saying, "I didn't get that, could you please explain." To me that's learning something about other people's humor. But I'm not sure I really see the point in saying "that wasn't funny." I mean, if something is offensive to you, ok, say so and tell us why. But that's not funny just seems like gratuitous criticism. It's kind of like posting that one doesn't like a design that everyone else is raving about. Ok, you don't like it. Why rain on the parade, though?

You're right. But then there are the people who "don't get" any joke, and constantly complain about every joke that it wasn't funny because they lack the sense of humor to find ANY joke amusing.

I've read on this board before that it's the high-tech version of the sewing circle; in essence, it's a bunch of people (mostly friendly :) ) with a common interest - hand sewing - sitting around chatting while working on their current embroidery project. If this were an actual gathering of live bodies instead of a virtual gathering, would you see it the same way? I guess I'm asking: If you're with some friends, and one of them tells a joke, but it's not funny to you, is it not ok to say so? Not rudely, of course.

And sometimes the teller is too dim or insensitive to realise that the audience either dislikes the joke or just doesn`t find it funny! Sheer lack of response should tell them that ;-)

My father had a wierd sense of humour and would literally cackle at his own jokes, although no-one else thought they were even amusing! Usually you couldn`t even see the point of them, poor old thing. (It wasn`t due to his age - he`d always been the same). I wish I could remember the "dirty" joke he once told - he never understood the rude ending, but was chuckling for days about something quite innocent in the lead-up! You`d have to have known him to know how embarrassed he`d have been if he`d realised it was rude!!! LOL

I see there were problems on one of those submarines - that's not surprising and I think it is going to bring great grief to your countries. The EU should be doing something about those boats.

Of course not everyone finds the same things funny, why would there be a need for so many comedians if they did ? I would go further and say that I might find something very funny one day and not so funny another day. It can depend on mood as well.

I've answered, but you left no quote, so I don't really know to whom you were replying.
