OT: SMDGD Project Help

Hi Guys, Raechel (the SMDGD) is now in first grade and needs help with a school project. She was given GeoBear, a little stuffed bear, whose mission is to help the class learn about the world, geography, maps, etc. Raechel sent him to her cousins in Santa Maria, CA where he went camping, trick-or-treating and to the beach. He is now with me here in the metro Atlanta, GA area and will be going with me to Pigeon Forge, TN soon. I will then send him along to someone else and would **really** like to be able to send him somewhere in Europe, Canada or some other part of the world. GeoBear has a journal in which the recipient is asked to write a little bit about their part of the world and, if possible, add a photo of GeoBear with some sort of landmark, sign, etc. that is descriptive of the area. The teacher has also asked that when a person gets GeoBear, you send a postcard to her so the class knows where his travels are taking him. Raechel's Dad does have a cousin in Sweden so GeoBear can go there but I thought it would be fun if he could go to at least one other country. If anyone in the USA, Canada or the other side of the pond is willing to help out with GeoBear's travels, please e-mail me and let me know. My e-mail is CatWom7711 at aol dot com . Thanks bunches & CiaoMeow >^;;^<

How about South Africa? I don't travel much, but Bethulie, Free State should be something different! I'd love to help.

OK, Cheryl, you're added :-). I have your snail mail already. One other person this side of the pond has offered to host GeoBear so I will ask her to send him to you. This little guy is REALLY going to be a world traveler. Now, two funny GeoBear stories -- and I've only had him a few days. We took him with us to visit a friend who has a Weimeraner named Payson. I thought a photo of GB & the dog would be cute to add to the journal. Now GB is *not* your regular stuffed animal, he's sort of flat and floppy (easier to mail) like a dog toy. Payson got one look at GB and thought he had a new chew toy and he almost ripped the little guy out of my hands. Payson was so fixated on GB that I finally had to put him in my purse! Payson was about to drag my purse off the counter to get GB when my friend thought it best to take him for a bit of a walk to make him forget the toy!!! Poor GB was almost covered in dog spit from Payson trying to take him from me!!! When we got home that evening, I set GeoBear on the kitchen table, propped up against the autumn centerpiece. I wanted to take a photo of him sitting on the huge pumpkin in the front yard next to the scarecrow and knew seeing him on the table would remind me. I went shopping yesterday morning and when I got home I went to get GB and he was gone! I looked all over the downstairs and the bear was nowhere. Now, we have a front staircase (right at the front door) and a back staircase in the kitchen (the one we always use). I went upstairs to get changed and there is GeoBear, laying smack dab in the middle of the little braided rug at the top of the front staircase! Cheeto -- the kitten from hell

-- had stolen GB and carried him upstairs! That rotten little kitten will steal anything he can get his teeth into and carry away! I phoned the SMDGD and told her the story and she really got a kick out of it!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

What part of Canada are you in Sheena? I know it's the eastern area but can't remember. Please send me your snail mail, OK?? There is one quilt lady in Canada who has volunteered asnd I was thinking that GB could do his "other side of the pond" travels first nd then come back this side. So far he is scheduled to go to Rep SoA; Victoria, OZ; Guadalajara, Spain; Great Britain; Munich, Germany, Malmo, Sweden. I need to add Mirjam in Israel to the list too! WOW -- what a great response from everyone. Thanks so much and CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Sounds good -- Di in OZ could send him to you asnd you could send him to Joyce in SoAfrica. Only problem is that you can't keep him for too long as there are at least 13 people on the list and only about 6 months for him to get everywhere! Please e-mail me your snail mail info, OK? Thanks & CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm struggling to manage Firefox, and keep losing messages before I've had a chance to reply. Now I can't find my old address book!

Anyway, my snail mail address is:

Joyce Milton PO Box 221

12 Viljoen St. Bethulie 9992 South Africa.

I've put in both physical and po address, as the PO is threatening to do door deliveries, so we have to pay an exorbitant amount for the box. Last time this was tried, in another town, it didn't materialise, so I'm hedging my bets.

The journey sounds most exciting - I wish I could go along! One thing, he must come here with a tracking number, as I don't trust the po personel one bit. I'll do the same when sending him on.

Love, Joyce.

Would GB like a trip to the Big Easy either on his way to Florida or en route to Texas? We could take him for a ride on the streetcar over to the French Quarter, and by the time he gets back home I imagine all the kids will have seen the latest Disney movie - which just happens to be set in N.O.

I'll add you to the mailing list -- e-mail your snail mail addy, please. I think that once he makes it back this side of the pond, where he goes will depend on how much time is left before his scheduled return arrival date of 10 May 2010. If there's enough time, then Lucille can send him to you before he goes to my DSis in TX. I think a ride on the streetcar to the French Quarter would be superb -- especially if you can get a photo of him -- near a frog under an evil spell perhaps -- LOLOL! Wonder what the frog would turn into if he kissed GeoBear???? CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm sure we could find a frog somewhere in the Quarter, the Zoo, The Aquarium or the Insectarium (which we have not yet visited!) Also, the Art Museum has an exhibit of stills from the animation, they are on exhibit until around March, I think.
