OT: Swine flu: for "those of you"

If you receive an email from the Department of Health telling you not to eat tinned pork because of swine flu - ignore it.

. . . . . . . .

It's just spam.

What a way to start a Friday! LOL

I love Spam.

I've never tasted the stuff. My grandmother was kosher so she would never buy it, my mother wouldn't allow it in the house because she didn't trust it and I didn't like the looks of it.

I suppose I should try it just to see what it tastes like.

I love it - but then I was practically brought up on it before and just after the war. It can`t be that bad if it`s still selling well!

I think I have three tins in the pantry....DH is convinced we will be paying the earth for everything very shortly. One shop had his favorite Baked Beans, in the size I use, for 60 cents off. I now have a box of them in the guest room.

I am also growing veggies in a community where gardens are not allowed.

I stopped by my favorite veggie stand today for an ear of corn( two because I didn't have the heart to buy just one). He showed me his peppers, tomatoes, yellow squash and zucchini. I thanked him, and told him we are growing our own this year. Mostly on the deck.

I vaguely remember, as a kid, a slice of fried Spam tasted pretty good. But back in those days we were not gourmets. The only thing I hated was "vegetables" as a group. Peas were OK, you could swallow them whole and also potatoes. Otherwise...Barf.

It must have been hard for my Mum. I am growing veggies now, and thankfully Jim loves all squashes, tomatoes, peppers and can't wait for the eggplants to come on/ They have about five weeks before we leave for the summer!!!

Chances are I won't. If I didn't taste it till now, I doubt I will get an opportunity to taste it at all. No one I know buys it, or at least they don't admit to buying it.

.DH is convinced we will be

Of course we will. For the last several years I have been telling my kids to put some money away (fruitlessly, I'm afraid). Wars bring on inflation. Every time. Check your history books.

In addition to the two current wars, plus some other undeclared ones,we have the current financial crisis where a few "big boys" decided to get rich at the expense of the entire rest of the world, and we will all pay for that - they certainly won't give it back.

I figure that between five and ten years from now the cost of living will double. Oh well, we've been broke before, we can do it again.
