OT VERY hot here

We have a chain (of 3 stores) of really nice grocery stores called Fairway. One of the 3 stores has a cold room. All the meat, dairy, eggs, etc. are not in refrigerated cases - they're just on shelves in the cold room which is like one big refrigerator. They have padded jackets you can borrow before going in if you get too cold. It's my idea of heaven on a very hot humid New York City day.

The local florist sells their stock of cut flowers half price on Saturday afternoons. Heaven is walking there on a hot day (1/2 mile directly, 1-1/2 miles if I go to the library first) and entering the refrigerated room to select some blooms!

Heaven for me today was passing a refrigerated lorry whuch had just opened it`s side opening door! I must confess I LINGERED in the icy blast. It confirmed that I actually WOULD like it to snow!!!

Ah, you've been listening to our local news, where one person complained about the record-setting heat and the other offered to find the video from February of "I wish it were triple digits".

Currently a balmy 96, with a predicted high of a mere 106. After 111 over the weekend, that will feel a mite chilly.

I'm with you Pat - I'm so sick of this heat and humidity - sick sick of it. I'll never understand how people can live in such weather all year. Thank the heavens above for our four seasons. I shall be dancing under the first snowflakes that fall this year. And hopefully they do fall - we had far too mild a winter last year - only had to clear the driveway twice.

I have a simple answer on how someone can live in this relentless heat. With much difficulty and a working air conditioner. lol

Oh yes, I am sick as well of this unbearable heat.. Haven't been in here as much to see what is happening with you all.. Been too hot to do much and I have a cold that is stil with me from beeing under the fans.. Can't touch my needles and yarn because just thinking anything warm, make s it all the more hotter in my appartment.. So, I hope me and my BF will go and get a small air condition fo our small studio.. In the meant time, I just have to live with his messy weather.. I hope to get sme knitting done, because I hate not having someting to do with my hands while I listen to my novels.. BTW, I found some patterns so I can get some brailed from the local transcription place here in Los Angeles.. Braille Institute charge a fee for braille stuff.. So, I sen patterns via email.. But I am stil awaiting a quote of how much to pay fo my patterns I want to have brailled.. I hope to get lots of them brailled as I get many from the net this way. It is not easy being s I am blind and braille my own stuff. And takes me time by reading the writing from the net and writing into braille.. So, in this way by them doin gh it for me, Helps me tremendiously.. Anyway, I went off subject and babbled a little too much here.. Still cool everyone as much as possible.. I hope this weather cools down some soon!! :-) Can't stands it no more... :-) Portia/Souther California where it is getting hot as of now..

It`s amazing - STILL we are missed by all the thunderstorms that have been hitting the area. Last night I could see the lightning and hear the thunder, actually smell the rain - but not a drop fell. The storm was where my daughter lives - only five miles away as the crow flies - in fact, when I phoned her, she was standing out enjoying the rain, until it turned to hail and drove her indoors!

Better luck today, according to the forecast!

It was the summer of '03, Pat. I was trying to combine a long awaited visit with a dreadful desire to outrun a certain anniversary. It was hot, but compared to the heat and humidity here, it wasn't as miserable for me as it was for Claire. I think the most miserable I ever got was when her partner and I climbed up the tower at the castle ruins in Caerphilly. Claustraphobia and heat are NOT a good combination! And ya know, I've fibbed in the past... when I've said it only rained once the entire time I was there! I was watching the video that he made of my trip with my Mom and was reminded that it rained on us while we were "trapped" in the Maze at Leeds Castle.

Long moons ago I once used aol because I received one of those 3 months free CDs. Big mistake. I ran it for a week to see, didn't like it, called and cancelled. What a mess! Fortunately I had not cancelled my ISP and the tech there helped me reset everything. She told me that typically, aol is vindictive when you cancel the service.

So if I was you I would talk to whomever is my current server, telling them you quit Ahole and they may be able to tell you lots of things you should do. Failing that, if you have an older Outlook, how about upgrading it to the latest, at which time it will override the mess that Ahole makes of your settings lol You can just go to microsoft.com and download the latest Outlook for free. I think Outlook Express 6 is the most recent build.

Outlook Express is prone to security holes. If I were you, I'd download Thunderbird (free - just Google Thunderbird) and you can use it for both email and newsgroups. It's simple to use and feature rich (corrects spelling on the go for one thing). Very straightforward. Your ISP will help you with anything that sounds too technical. I've been using Thunderbird as an adjunct to the browser Firefox. Both are extremely stable. Firefox has its difficulties for doing some tasks that I need to do as administrator of PHP forums. So, I just load up Explorer when I need to . . . which is quite rare.

Please... do stay well hydrated and don't overdo it in this heat. I had a good friend of mine die very recently after insisting that his lawn needed to be mowed. In the larger scope of things, it didn't.. it could have waited until a cooler morning instead of killing him in the heat of the late afternoon. I did hear close to 100 people have lost their lives in California alone because of it.

I know.. I am a transplanted California girl. I know how odd it is for this to be so hot for so long over so wide an area. I worry about my 80 year old mother. At least she is in Long Beach, perhaps a bit closer to some cool air. I also lived in Riverside before I moved to Denver - what a change!!! Still, most people are not used to this kind of heat. Let's hope things get back to a more normal summer!

Well, our June was "absolutely average" ... nearly every weather measurement was exactly what it historically should be.

Then in July (as is typical), we had a run of extra-hot days. Nothing particularly unusual about doing that in mid-July. Although we did set a record for duration, we here in Sacramento set only one "new daily high" record.

Today, we are actually going to be well below the historical average. Since we had a number of below-average days at the beginning of the month, July may also work out (mathematically, at least) to be fairly average.

As I've said before, I'm not convinced that the primary culprit is human-created "global warming" so much as natural climate changes as we transition from a cooler period (e.g., "Ice Age") to a warmer period.

This past winter, we had a group of younger residents up in arms about how far down the mountain it was snowing. Several of the older residents shrugged ... this was a return to the way winters were in their childhood. For maybe 30 years, they had no snow most winters, and now it has cyclically returned to what the older folks considered "normal". They've seen it before, they're not as worked up as the younger people who think this is something new and worrisome.
