VERY OT: Quick Tax Prayers

It may be too late but could you guys sneak in some quick tax prayers for me? DH is doing taxes today and it's all going to come crashing down around our heads and I think we probably owe thousands and thousands of dollars. And I'm the one who should have seen the accountant earlier to make sure withholdings were high enough. I am currently looking for a very small hole to crawl into and pull the dirt back over myself.

It's all over but the annual "Bleedin' of the Turnip."

Thank goodness for that Economic Stimulus check coming later this year. But you know, they could have saved the postage and just kept the money and written off our tax bill. Sheesh!

Hang in there, Sunny

Boy do I know that feeling! Last year we owed in the not so low 4 figures! When I asked DH what it was looking like this year... he said 86.... I about croaked! You KNOW what I was thinking! But guess what ... it was $86!!!!! I was so relieved...

I am the one in the household who does all the regular bill paying (for us... DH's mum and for our adult disabled son -- I think I should be awarded an honorary accounting degree!) -- so DH doesn't often look at the checkbook or the balances or the cancelled checks. However, I do all of my financial work on Quicken (computer software) and I am sinfully honest. So at tax time, when he goes back through all the various categories for tax info... he can't help but come across my Quilting expenses for the year.... OUCH OUCH!!!!

Although last year wasn't my highest ever -- not even in the top 3 (I've only been quilting for 8 years) so the amount of steam was minimal! LOL

I'm married to a really great guy! He indulges me... and my passions with few complaints! I am fortunate in that!

I hope the tax man is kind to all of you as well.

Sunny, I think we and you have endured your drippy nose long enough. Even if it kills you, LEARN to snort plain cold water. The feeling is much like jumping into a cold swimming pool without holding your nose. You won't die. It will flush out all the irritating mean stuff that's aggravating your poor weary nose insides and soothe them. Not hot water. Not salty water. Just cold water. You can snuffle it from your palm or in the useless ¼ cup measure from something. Trust me. ( My mama said never to trust a man who said, "Trust me".) Back when Kate was recovering from thyroid surgery and I was forever sniffing cold water, we were quite a pair. She couldn't raise her voice and I was a drip but we recovered. Try it. Washing out your nose innards is not something fun, is not socially acceptable but it works when nothing else will. Three or four times for a day or so and you really will be heaps better. And! there are absolutely no side effects. You can still drive, keep you liver and indulge in gambling or whatever vices you enjoy. Please try it. Polly

Butterfly, I won't say another word about my nose. Promise. But I've been snorting water -- warm, warm with salt, cold, room temp. I've snorted, inhaled, used perhaps too much force when spritzing. My Meemaw taught us to inhale warm salt water off a blue willow saucer. Was as miserable then as it is now. Only I don't have any blue willow. LOL.

Speaking of which, I just may have to put together a Blue Willow quilty thing. Hmmmmmmmmmm, Daughter of Blue Willow....

This is 'so popular now' that there was an article in Sunday's "Parade magazine" in the paper. Just went to the ENT Dr and he said WARM DISTILLED water (heat it in teh microwave--has to be warmer than room temp) with a bit of SEA SALT and Baking Soda mixed in. Since I'm so sensitive to anything up the nose without getting a migraine he said to start out with 1/4 tsp of each in the bottle of water (Got a kit from the Drugstore that has the nose snuffler bottle in it. Make sure you get the RIGHT kit--the pre-mixed rinses box doesn't have it--you have to get the 'kit' unless your druggie will sell ONLY the bottle--mine won't--not enuf profit! You could use the 'blue' ear syringe and do the same trick...

Butterfly (Make sure you use DISTILLED WATER...he was adamant about that...didn't want all those minerals or chlorine adding to the problems.)

This little thingy is called a Neti Pot - NAYY. I, thank goodness, haven't had a cold or snuffle for YEARS (knock on wood) but my DS, DDIL, her brother and Mom swear by this thing. Seems to work for them, they've been off all sinus, allergy and cold meds since they started using it about a year ago.

Butterfly,

I just recently bought a Neti pot. I'm using the packets that came with it, but only half. Sometimes when I use the Neti pot, I get pain in the sinuses just above my eyes. I'm wondering if I wouldn't like the bulb syringe better than the Neti pot.

You said 1/4 tsp of sea salt & baking soda, but how much water is this mixed into?

Boy,oh boy, did this ever bring a smile. DS#2 uses a neti pot. He was getting a cold while during a brief visit here two weeks ago. (Band is on tour, currently in Saskatoon.) Anyway, next thing I know, someone sends me a link to a YouTube video of DS#2 using his Neti. SHeesh, somethings should be kept private! :>

They also sell something at the drug store called "Ocean Nasal Spray"

NAYY. The generics work just as well. It fits in your purse a bit better than a handful of water. ;-) It seems counter-intuitive to add more moisture when you're already dripping, but this stuff works miracles. And since there are no drugs in it, you can use it all day long. My doctor got me started on this stuff years ago during a bad sinus infection -- I haven't been without it since.

I've used Ocean Nasal Spray for years, also. However, the Neti pot gets the saline into your sinuses more than just using nasal spray does.

For you, I measured.

1 1/2 cups distilled water.

Ran out of distilled last night.used 'botteld' water today...it makes a diff..it tingles for quite a while after..distilled didn't.so those bottled waters DO ahve minerals in them of some kind.
