Pillow toppers

I found some old cross stitch magazines at a second hand store. They had patterns for pillor toppers. You could buy triangle shaped aida material and it had some sort of fastener so you could attach it to a pillow and easily change your decor. I've searched for pillow toppers, found nothing, and my LNS said they don't exist any more. So, does anyone know if I can get the material anywhere? I have some patterns in the cross stitch mags, but I wouldn't mind getting more patterns if the material is available. Sue

There are one or two "pillow toppers" on ebay. For example

And a search for ("pillow topper" aida) pulls up a dozen or so results on Google

Sue,

Why not just to the little bit of finishing these would require?

Sue spoke to me on the phone about this. As I recall, and verified with my close friend LNS owner - we used to carry them when I worked there. They were a Zweigart product. But, we checked all the catalogs today, and no one has them - they stopped being made a while back. Our suggestion - make your own - and it would be nicer - with some linen, and just fold the square, trim the edges with something - enclosing hem - use a sewing machine. The latest version of these had velcro on the wide end that went on the back, and they had a button or fringe, tassle on the front to kind of weight down the flap.

Sue, I believe I have one of these, and I think I also have a booklet of charts for them. I'd be happy to pop either or both of them in the mail to you if you're interested.

What a good idea for the search. I searched for pillow toppers and got a lot of hits on mattresses. Sue

I'm terrible at sewing anything by machine. I don't know if this something that could be finished by hand. I really wanted to see one of these, just to see how it was attached to the pillow. From the description in the magazine, after you stitch it, you peel away paper from the fastener and attach - so maybe it used velcro? I think I could finish the edges of a triangle, but I don't know how I could create something that I could attach to a pillow and change out when needed. Sue

That would be great! Sue

Cindy said that they used velcro. I believe they gave you a piece to stick on for mating to the pillow.
