*Because of the Brave pillow - Red Ribbon (2nd place) *Kitty Heart Pillow - Blue Ribbon (1st place) *Trio of Victoria Sampler "Beyond Cross Stitch" made into ornaments - Blue Ribbon w/Honors (1st place Plus) *Britty Kitty "Cats in Charge Here" a trio done individually, and then finished together - Blue Ribbon *"Basic Bargello" - Blue Ribbon w/Honors *A fall-themed punch needle - Blue Ribbon *A flag-heart pin entered into the jewelry division (this has lots of beading) - Blue Ribbon w/Honors *My "Hawaiian Dream" tote bag* (made from el-cheap-o tote bag from Michaels', a piece of pale blue Aida pulled from my stash, a freebie chart from my LNS, and some novelty buttons from Michaels Fibers used are a mix of over dyed and DMC...my fingers hurt for a week after doing this as I stitched through the Aida *and* the bag - the stitching is holding the Aida to the bag!) - Blue Ribbon w/Honors

Sadly, no champions or reserve champions in the bunch!

But (!!!), our fair gives out miniscule cash prizes according to the ribbon won - $1 for each blue, $0.50 for each red, and $0.25 for each white (3rd place). I raked in a whopping $7.50! Which I promptly spent (and more) at my local LNS!!!

*this tote bag gets a fair amount of use as a carry-all for the projects that I haul around. I missed having it during it's stay at the fair - and it came surprisingly clean in the wash (hot water, gentle cycle, then dried & ironed) before I took it in (it had a couple of pop spills on it, plus some dirt from the floor of my car).

Congratulations on the wins!

At our state fair, you can win up to $5 in a couple of categories (woo- hoo!).

Can you enter more than one item per category? Here you are limited to one per descriptive unit (ie, one in the sampler category, one in the general XS category, one in the pillowcase category. . .)

I think there are a couple of categories that are more than that, but I don't think I do anything for those categories.

Did you enter this year?

Yes, although I won't get to see it there - we're going to Seattle on vacation and will be gone the first weekend and picking up my son from St. Louis the second. My neighbor is taking my stuff for me. I'm entering Blackwork Challenge (freebie from Tam's Creations), Sapphire Star (counted canvas work by Laura Perin) and a small needlepoint pillow based on a Nancy Coffelt painted canvas called Jazzy Zebra and Penguin. If you want to see them, they are in my Needlework folder here:

you enter anything? Linda

Naw, too busy. My other problem was that I would have liked to enter several things into one category and that's verboten. If they have the blackwork challenge next year, I'll enter my own blackwork design, but I think yours would beat mine.

I'm trying to get my mom to enter in the crochet categories.

Your work is always so full of happiness and whimsy. I love the zebra.

Well, congrats on the success of your prolific stitching! I really like the kitty heart pillow. The set of the Brittercup designs is very cute the way they're all finished. Nice idea!

Congrats again.

Thanks!

It wasn't my idea to finish them that way, I was going to hang them individually, but Liz (co-owner of my LNS) suggested 'threading' them together that way so they could be one entrant (you're only allowed one in each sub-category)

A side story to go with this, I manned the booth (in the commercial building) for our local Humane Association, and one of the other volunteer workers (about 60 years young) was telling me about when she entered some of her quilts (one of which took about several years to make - it's for her son and its' made from all of his old jeans of his youth (she started it when he was a kid, and finally finished it this year, he's 21 now) - I saw it and it's *heavy*). She said that she grew up in a very strict Pentecostal home, and it was a mortal sin to even *think* about going to a county fair. This was the first time she had ever set foot on any fairgrounds - ever! The first time she ever entered *anything* in a fair - ever. Some of her friends in her quilting classes talked her into entering a few of her things. She said the girl that signed her in gave her a funny look, as she was bawling with happiness to be (at her age) going to *THE FAIR*.

She got at least one Blue w/Honors - and I think it was the jeans quilt!

Hi all,

I usually just lurk out here because I don't usually treat myself to enough spare time to enjoy this group, but I just wanted to say WOW, what great work you do! I especially like the Kitty Heart pillow. Do you mind my asking which fabric and thread you chose for this project? The combination seems perfect!

Wow! So many blues....great job!

And I thought *our* county fair was cheap....now I feel much better! :) We get $3 for 1st, $2 for 2nd and $1 for 3rd, nothing for reserve or grand champion. I think there's also a $10 prize for the person that wins in the most in multiple categories or something like that. We can also enter only one thing per category. I suggested they could at least pay you back enough to recover the gate pass. :)
