It's County Fair time - for us USA'ns

Anyone have any items they're entering in the fair? Liz & Dianna coerced me into entering some of the stuff I've done into the open-class needle work category(they have all the stuff, it's been tagged, and they will be setting up all of it next week, since they are in charge of this-they aren't the judges, but the organizers).

So - I decided to enter 7 things:

-set of 3 'ornaments' from the beyond cross stitch series from Victoria Sampler (can enter up to six as a set)

-the Basic Bargello

-a tote bag I decorated with a free-bee chart, & some el-cheapo plastic themed (to match the design) buttons from Michael's

-a punch needle design

-a pillow with a cross-stitch heart that is made up of cat themed designs (pattern was from France, with all the -instructions in French), the only seam is on the back, fabric was large, so I have it just wrapped around the pillow form, with the top & bottom opening being just folded in and held closed with cat-themed button

-a pillow that has on it a USA 'flag' design, that states in it "Land of the free, because of the Brave"

formatting link
- The pillow does notlook like the one pictured, I made the pillow out of a blue denim-likematerial, with a red-grey-ecru cording around it, and used red-white-bluestar buttons to hold the stichwork fabric to the pillow (the stitched fabricis of a pale grey - it and the red stitching match the red & grey in thecording).-a cross-stitch and beaded 'pin' (this one is the only one not entered inthe needlework category - I got that one in the jewelry-making category)-3 "Britty Kitty" designs, finished & hung in an unusual way

I was too busy finishing these things to take pictures of them (besides the ones that are already on by Webshots page), so pictures will follow later.

Fair starts Saturday, June 21, and I will be there every day manning the booth for the local Humane Association.

As usual, the large picture that would stand a chance of winning has to be somewhere else before the fair, and since, as usual, that "somewhere else" is another state, I'm not asking the recipient to spend the money to ship it back.

I am starting to do some stuff for me, so one of these years, I'll have something large and impressive that I can simply take off my own wall and walk over to the fair.

Good luck and please be sure to post pics afterward.

I decided not to enter this year; too much to do and that mystical event has already been demystified.

I am thinking about making my son a quilt and hand-quilting it, then entering it next year. When I entered 2 years ago, I only saw one hand-quilted quilt and it also was embroidered. Hand quilting is an art that's being lost, even amongst quilters.

I dunno about that. This is the first time I've entered ANYTHING.... just doing that is accomplishment enough for me...... *if* I win anything, I will be ecstatic!

But on the other hand, I was perusing the entrants last year, and I saw things I could do way better when I was 7 years old - and this was the ADULT category (and I have seen things done better BY 7 year olds!).

Where is this summer going????? Somehow I never even *thought* of entering the fair when the time came! The fair was last weekend. sigh. I even had 2 pics ready to enter. One won't be here next year because I'm donating it for a silent auction at our library conference in Sept. Oh, well. I should have at least half of the 17 Carol Emmer stuffed nativity pieces done to enter next year.

DD didn't have anything ready, either. :(

I'm entering "Lily Pond Dreams" and "Feline Fascination" in our county fair. Both can be seen at RCTNP. This will be only my second time entering and I have not yet entered the state fair. The completion at the state level is fierce but awesome to see. It is exciting to enter!

Our fair was earlier this month. I entered 4 things:

  1. A Precious Moments Lion and Lamb with Angel done on 22 ct. Aida (smaller than 8x11 category) - blue ribbon
  2. A youth sweatshirt with a stitched Christmas bear on it (item not listed category) - red ribbon (2nd place)
  3. Christmas stocking I did for my daughter with little girl looking at Jesus in the manger (*other* category) - blue ribbon
  4. Marbek Garden Angel (larger than 8x11 category) - white ribbon (3rd place)

This was my first time entering this particular fair. There really aren't too many entries in the counted cross stitch section, so I'm not sure how accurate the ribbons are! But it's fun. Although I have to say I was disappointed with the third place for the Marbek angel. I thought it deserved at least a second. Oh well...... :-)

At our county fair, they judge each individual item by itself, either getting white (3rd), red (2nd), blue(1st) or blue & purple (1st with honors). Then all the 1st w/honors from one class are judged together, and a champion & reserve champion are chosen. Then from among all the champions & reserve champions, a grand champion & reserve grand champion are chosen for the entire category (needle work).

I worked as an assistant to the judge today (bringing the projects to and then taking them away when she finished), and by the time I left, I had 2 blue, one red, and at least 1 blue w/honors. Don't think I had any champions though. I had a prior engagement & had to leave before they were finished. I will find out on Saturday, when I go to man the booth for the local Humane Association.

I am entering three pieces in our state fair:

  1. Laura Perin's Sapphire Star (counted canvas)
  2. Nancy Coffelt Jazz Zebra & Penguin (needlepoint)
  3. Tam's Creations "Blackwork Challenge" (done in an overdye)

Have no idea how I'll do, but it IS making me finish the last two pieces and get them out of the "to be framed/finished" pile LOL!

Updates in mid-August. . .
