You are not the only one ,who has 1 project at a time. :-) I have one started,(size 18"x25" cross stitch)have 6 pages done of 25. Only been working on it for 1 month. Taking my time..Typically it will take me on an average of 8 months to finish a large cross stitch. I have over 20 projecting waiting to be done. My daughter's have projecting waiting for me. Barbara
A rotation system still works for me. Having just finished a project, I now have only 3 projects in my rotation. Usually, I have 4 to 6 pieces in rotation. Depending on size, I complete
5 to 7 projects each year.
Current projects are:
Canada Geese, Sporting Masters, LTD
Each Dawn A New Day, Dimensions
Liberty, Lynne Nicoletti
Just finished "Angel of Light", Marillyn Leavitt-Imblum
Three; one that I'm actively working on that's a gift for a friend, one kind of boring cross stitch project for a lap quilt that I pick up every so often when I'm bored stiff, and odds and ends of left over yarn that I'm crocheting or knitting into squares which will eventually be an afghan for a charity.
I try very hard not to time them. Some, like the cross stitch afghan may take years, the knitting/crocheting squares can be an evening when I want to concentrate on a TV show or I'm waiting for something to happen and the gift I really want to finish so I can give it to my friend and, therefore, I try to work on it every day
When I worked years ago making samples for one of the now defunct needlework companies, I had to time everything I did because I was paid by the hour. I swore I would never pay that much attention to time for anything after that.
Kitted ujp and waiting are two, soon to be three. If you want to know how many are in my stash, I prefer not to say!!!! lol
Oy, veh- I have seven projects (I think; could be more!) going now - four cross stitch, one crochet, one canvaswork, and one surface embroidery. I'm an "opportunistic" stitcher: When they get finished depends on size and deadlines and what opportunities to stitch present themselves. Right now the surface embroidery one is Priority #1, so that gets worked on almost daily for 2-3 hours. Smaller projects are valued for their portability and get taken to meetings, Sunday School, etc.
I have a mental queue of what I'll undertake next, and there are four projects pushing themselves forward. Plus ornaments.
Some projects are finished in a matter of weeks, others (one in particular) is going on two years! And it's never been a UFO...it's a WISP (work in slow progress).
I think I actually have 3 started at the moment. 2 are ones that I started because I accidentally left the main project at work. Now, that being said, there are times when I'll have to set the current project aside to do a gift for someone.
Depends on the size, of course! Large ones (e.g. 15x18") take me about a year. My current project(s), the Carol Emmer stuffed Nativity set, will probably take me about 4 years. 17 pieces, stitched on both sides. I have 6 pieces stitched, which has taken me nearly 2 years.
Other than the rest of the Nativity pieces? Waaaaay too many! LOL Definitely SABLE!
Please don't make me count them. Of course, some have been sitting around since before I got sick, and will stay UFO'd till I feel up to such complexity again.
Depends on the project. I've been known to finish some of the smaller stuff in a weekend. "Dance of the Roses" was a gift, and took about 2 months. "Isabella's Garden" was such a fun stitch I didn't want to put it down and took about a month.
Anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of years. Just depends on the rotation, and what I feel like, and life. Most - a couple of months. I'm a pretty fast stitcher, but tend to not work for more than a week or two on a single project. If I do - they finish quickly.
I have 4 UFOs at the moment - a tabletopper (Bristol Sampler), Cala Lilly, an Amish scene from a magazine waaaaay back and a combination project using a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a rottweiler and a police officer.
The tabletoppers are usually only about a month. The other projects take longer since they're too big to be travel projects and complicated enough that I need to have enough time to pay attention to what I'm doing. I've been working on the Harley/dog/cop project for about 10 years. :-)))
