Frustrating!

I`m fighting temptation here! I still have a little way to go to finish a picture I`m doing of one of our most haunted houses, and have just about got to the stitching stage of another old Tudor Hall (a local one) - and I`m really having to do battle with myself not to start it before I`ve finished the last one! I`ve pinned the (pregridded) fabric for the new one to the frame, and it`s sitting there, just winking at me! I wonder how long I can stand out - or should I just give in and have yet another UFO haunting me?

Put the new project in a box, and mail it to your self. This should give you just enough time to finish the little bit that is left. That way you will have a postman sighting instead of a UFO sighting.

Ha ha! What, with two items going missing in the post during the last couple of weeks? Good idea, though - the only snag being I have plenty of stash in hand to set up another kit if I got REALLY desperate! Does anyone else have this problem by the way?

What, wanting to start something new before something else is done? Sure, all the time. One of my students has been teasing me, because I sometimes knit between classes. She complains that she often sees me with new things, but she hasn't seen me finish anything yet. That's because it's easier to carry small knitting projects around than large ones, so I leave things home after they hit a certain size. As a result, I have several projects in various stages of completion.

Anyhow, if I really really want to start something, I will. Then when I get bored of that, I'll go back through the UFO pile before starting something new. Usually, something there will call me and I'll work on it, but if I really want to start something new, I will. This is a hobby and I don't see any reason to impose discipline on myself, except where buying is concerned. If I already have the stash on hand, and I want to start something, why not? If I die with 15 projects unfinished, who cares? As somebody else (Ruby?) pointed out, I could have spent all my money on drinking or gambling. I choose to spend it on needlework, but I'm buying pleasure, not obligation!

Yes, if you want to. Life is way too short not to do what you want to do when doing a hobby. If you want to start on the new one because it is compelling you to get going, do it..There is NO guilt in doing what you want when it comes to spending time on what you love to do.

Aha - now that`s the best idea yet! There are three very nice ladies haunting it - plus a pet ape!

Were the ladies spinsters??? I seem to remember "leading an ape" as an expression for an unmarried lady of a certain age. Dawne

I don`t think so - I`ll have to watch the tape of the psychic investigation again. They were sisters, that I do know. The ape in question was a family pet who was accidentally shut in a cupboard and starved to death (It IS a huge house!) Apparently he`s sometimes seen roaming about, and heard scratching at the door, poor thing.

I`ve never heard that expression!

Kate (the Shrew in Taming of the ...) describes herself as "born to lead apes in hell", with the implication that she will never marry, by her own choice.

Regency romances use "ape-leader" as a synomym for "old maid", but I have never seen the phrase in actual Regency-period literature. (Not saying it isn't there, just that I've not seen it...)

Who me? With 12 or 13 TW's started, 3 or 4 Mirabilias, two Long Dog Samplers, 2 Silver Linings, and a variety of others in various stages?

Me? Who has at least 4 knitting projects going? 4 crochet cotton projects (including a curtain, like that is ever gonna get finished?).

The "Longest" project I ever completed was a fishing net when my DH had a fishing boat! Quite enjoyable, if a little monotonous. I think it was 100 ft long.

Bright idea - set the kitchen timer for one hour - work on the one that`s bugging me for exactly that time - then get on with the new one! I find I`m stitching faster to get as much done as I can in an hour!

Try this, Pat, it's what I did on a recent project that was hollering at me to start it: Put about 15 or 20 stitches into the thing. You will have scratched your itch and it will be quiet for a while longer. :)

Or maybe you've already figured out what to do---I was gone all last week and am still catching up!

Oh yeah - I hear you!

I have 11 WIPs....I have had five finishes so far this yeasr though and I promised myself that if I just finish ONE particular piece I can start on a historical reproduction I have been wanting to start for almost a year! The five finishes I have had are NOT the particular piece I wanted to have finished.

The problem piece is a fairy - Maria van Sharrenburg's "Night" and it's a model for a local shop and it's somethign I would never stitch for myself. I would say its 95% complete but it's a real pain in the proverbial butt - lots of colour changes, I hate the thread (I thought Dimensions was DMC thread???) and last night I discovered I can't even count to 5!

I am forcing myself to finish it in May though!

Keep saying to myself...gotta finish the fairy...gotta finish the fairy.....then I WILL reward myself with the start on the reproduction!

Oh dear - that wouldn`t do! Once I start I`m stuck into it for the rest of the day! I`m carrying out Plan B - one hour on the UFO - and HOURS on the new one. I`m getting the sky done first, as that`s boring and pretty straightforward. The ghost of the chimney pots is appearing now. It`s approx 300 by 200, so there`s a LOT of sky!

I have a small spider setting up home on my lamp. Every so often it drops down and runs across the work then goes back up to the lamp! Now spiders give me the horrors, but I`m going to cultivate this one, in the hope that it might grow slowly enugh to get me used to them!

Now be sensible my dear, think of your size compared to the spider and ask youself who should be scared !

ME!!! It`s the way they scurry. I don`t mind any other creature - just spiders - and we have a Policeman friend who is even more "scared" than I am!

I`m getting smaller, by the way - I`ve lost nearly a stone with this stomach thing! At least there`s some advantage to it - I`m at exactly the right weight for my height! Soon a spider will be able to beat me up.

Hi Pat,

I've got that stomach thing too. Do you think I caught it via the internet ??? ;^))))))
