Re: Deerfield Embroidery

Okay, I finally got around to hunting through my stuff.

I have two Embroidery and Cross Stitch Magazines (Vol. 9 No. 4 and Vol.

11 No. 1) with extensively detailed how-to's but no history.

Pamela Clabburn's Needleworker's Dictionary has a short paragraph.

Bridgeman & Drury's Needlework, an illustrated history (despite the title) has no photo or illustration and a couple of paragraphs.

Lanto Synge's Art of Embroidery has a couple of sentences.

A quick glance didn't find anything in Dillmont, Weldon's or Anchor Encyclopaedia.

The EGA's magazine Needlearts shows and article in the Spring 1978 Issue. (I don't have it)

The ANG's magazine Needlepointers has nothing.

Fine Lines has nothing.

Piecework Jan/Feb 2002 and March/April 1993 with Deerfield history articles (Sorry, I have neither one!)

Couldn't find an index of articles for the EAC's Embroider Canada. But their library lists two books: Deerfield Embroidery: Howe, Margery Burnham 1976 Charles Scribner's Sons Early American Embroideries in Deerfield, Massachusetts: Howe, Margery Burnham 1963 Heritage Foundation

Whew! That's all I got.

I will look at our local Guild's private library at the next meeting. Last year a woman donated a tonne of books on crewel and IIRC there was something on Deerfield. There were kits and patterns which we sold off to the membership so the library may not have retained it, but let me have a look.

Happy researching! Jeanine in Canada

AND we are right back to the Howe book! It is quite amazing how little there is out there on Deerfield Blue and White ! I did see they were having needlework seminars there--oh boohoo wish I could go. barbie
