Silk Gauze again

I am almost finished the project I am doing on silk gauze, but I'm not sure what to do as far as cutting it. I have to cut a 7/8" diameter circle so that it will fit inside a watch necklace. If I cut it, will the edges fray? Do I have to do any finishing to the cut edges or will it be okay once I place it in the necklace? I'd love any advice!

What about painting a border of Fray Check where you'll be cutting the gauze, & cut it when it's dry?

I finished up that watch last year and if I remember correctly, you don't have much room AT ALL to hide the edges under the prongs that you turn over to secure the stitching in place.

The gauze doesn't fray, but make sure that you immediately put it in the setting (so you don't give it a chance to.) I wouldn't recommend using fray check, because in my experience that bleeds toward the inside of the work and you don't have that much room.

Be very careful to protect the prongs from scratches when mounting it (voice of experience here.) Make sure also, that you have the clock set at the precise angle you want as well when you mount the thing - I only got one chance at it. If you can figure out how to get the watch part out of the setting to change the time when daylite savings time comes & goes, please let me know.

Yet another great reason to let Congress know we hate having to set 20 clocks in our lives twice every year. :-) Not to mention resetting my sleep patterns! Loved your post. I really grinned about the prong part. I made a stumpwork piece for a Framecraft bowl. What a mess. Luckily there are separate lids you can purchase. :-)
