That's the worst bit really! What does someone living in Florida need with an Aran afghan ??

I was wondering if anyone but me would be curious about that. But I'm not doing this one because I need it. Come to think of it, how much of the needlework we do is because we "need" it and how much is because we "want" it? I don't suppose too many of us have a real need for another pillow, or another picture.

I'm doing it because it's from a booklet called the Great American Afghan that was originally done for Knitter's Magazine and consists of 50 different patterned squares, done by 50 of the top knitting designers on this continent. As expected, some are easy enough for beginners and some are medium and some are very advanced.

I find knitting a nice, relaxing thing to do every so often and since we have only a few days here in FL that are cool enough for a sweater, an afghan is fun. Now if I can keep my needles out of my coffee cups life will be great.

Chuckle, we've all done things like that at some time. :-) I find if I'm in a serious knitting fugue, I tend to bury the cable needle in the bottom of the piece. Less likely to sit on it there. :-) When I set it aside, it's all together.

Blue laughs at me a lot as I tend to store extra needles in my hair (behind my ponytail). Of course, cable needles tend to fall out a lot.

I alwaus taught students to keep Food /drinks and Working materials

materials on 2 Seprate tables ,,, or if this isn`t possible 2 sides. I know that at least 3 of my students were saved from drinking the wrong unhealthy stuff , by this simple rule.

It sounds lovely and I am sure you will find a good use for it, even in Florida. How do you join the squares ? With a crochet method or stitching ?

I should have known you would ask that question. For me the very worst part of knitting or crocheting is putting it together so it's something I try my very best not to think about until the last minute. I already said I believe thinking too far ahead sometimes is a dangerous thing.

Crocheting it together is probably stronger, but it doesn't look good to my eye so I suppose I'll sew it. Now don't you dare ask me how I'll sew it, except that it'll probably be weaving rather than overcast or backstitch. That is unless someone has a great idea for me for something less tedious and strong enough not to fall apart when I lift the finished object.

That's a good idea but won't work for me because I only have a table on one side. I sit in the corner of a loveseat when I do my needlework and only have one side for things like that and space for my dog on the other side.
