Tell me about bullion stitch

I have a pattern I would quite like to attempt that requires bullion stitch. Can someone help me with this please?

I have a lengthy tutorial on making bullions. You'll find it here:

is a different method for making them as well, though I haven't had any luck with it. Like most things, it's what you get used to. Good luck. Bullions aren't hard, but it's one of those fussier stitches that requires some "effort" at first to get the hang of them. So, as someone else pointed out, practise on some cheap fabric first. I'd also recommend practising with pearl cotton - or even some rayon thread if you have some around. It's much easier.

Glad I could be of some help. Like I was chastened to do here (at RCTN) not long ago with a knitting pattern, sometimes you just have to DO something. Follow the directions and go for it. :-) Like trills in piano, bullions are one of the trickier embroidery stitches and take a little while to have any level of confidence.

I recently came across a lovely raised embroidery picture and it was fun to try to figure out the different stitches used and how they were used. Brazilian can really open up a lot of opportunities for diversification in your embroidery. I'm not fond of the rayon colors, but I love many of the unique stitches the artform employs.

I've done that a time or two. Not for beginners. :-) Usually a milliner needle is long enough.

Dianne,

Kudos, on the way you have your graphics described. The "top graphic" and "bottom graphic" are easy to read (versus letters or numbers) and you know what is being described at a glance. I am dyslexic and old enough for reading glasses so anything that is easy to read is very welcome in my world. Which there were more Web designers like you.

That's very, very kind of you. Maybe it's because I have so much trouble with directions. :-) But you can never please all the little nuanced gray cells out there in the netherworld. If you make it easy for some, you are leaving others out. I try to be as broad as possible.
