b. do my semi/biannual counted stitch project of a really neat pattern?

d. overcome my frugality in not liking to waste anything and practise punch needling?

Someone who shall not remain nameless (hi Linda) lent me a chart of Pam Davenport's Sisters after I admirer her work. It looked easy enough to counting challenged me to do it .... boy was I wrong!!!!
First issue was the hard time I had concpetualizing how big the finished piece was going to be -- the dimensions friends calculated seemed to be huge and didn't seem to match what the pamphlet said. I had to baste a rough estimate of the stitched design before I understood that what I was being told were the necessary dimensions included generous borders.
After very carefully measuring to the lower left which was the logical place to start the outline for the ladies, I started back stitching. I quickly found out that I did't understand how to do slanted lines (over one? over two?). Hours passed as I stitched and frogged, stitched and frogged. I eventually got to the right side of the first lady when I saw that I had omitted part of the bodice on the left side even though I had marked a copy of the pattern each time I did a series of stitches.
At this point, I said 'enough is enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' I ripped out everything, scanned the finished ladies picture from the pamphlet, sized it in my graphics program, cut around the edges, and traced that on the congress cloth. Within a short time, I had almost the whole outline stitched.
When I do the decorative stitches for the clothes, I'm sure I'll have to compensate as my shapes probably aren't the same size called for in the design.
Love your solution! It's something I will tuck away for future reference when I want to NOT count! Or to change a pattern from XS to something else. . . Hmm, ideas are percolating!
All the stitches can be compensated (ask me how I know lol). Or do your own - they're just suggestions! You have wonderful ideas and stitch sense - you may have something even better inside you!
Be careful!!! Snippets of vertical lines are showing in some areas that the stitches haven't covered. I'm cogitating on how to handle this
