Waaaay OT: Global cooling again.

I have just been reading about another theory, with solid data to back it up; you wont read about this in any of the normal news media. Over Antaretica, in the polar winter, so-called greenhouse gases actually work like refrigerators. The more CO2 there is in the air, the colder Antartica is in the winter.

Umm, does this have to do with the density of CO2 acting as an insulation layer preventing what little warming sun there is? And, btw - reference? Wikipedia isn't exactly valid...

It is much more complex than that. Reference. Yahoo discussion group of Climate Sheptics. Author. William Kinninmonth, who is, I believe, a professor of Meteorology at some US University; I think Chicago, but dont quote me. I dont really understand it, but anything that absorbs radiation, also emits the same radiation. The sun does not shine at all over Antaretica in winter, so basically the so-called greenhouse gases emit rather than absorb radiation.

Thanks Jim. Curious - and, umm, I do have a masters (and my doctoral work) in ME with my emphasis in the Thermo-Fluids. Even wrote a some stupid paper long ago on a heat transfer, energy, thermo thing. But, in general I don't post equations on RCTN and was asking if that was the simple version. Interesting take on radiation - it's not exactly like a direct reflection else everytime an x-ray was taken your body would not absorb any radiation dosage, etc.

I think I'll do a little looking. Of course there are all kinds of groups of skeptics, and some "science" or "historical fact" could be pulled out of anything.
