For those of us who celebrate Christmas, what stitchy things do you have on your list? :) I would like some 'how to' books on Irish needlework, ie: Mountmellick embroidery, Irish crochet, Irish lace etc. I wonder if there is such an animal as this book......
For Channukah, I wouldn't mind getting a book or two about ribbon embroidery accompanied by a supply of ribbon. Even better would be some private lessons with a finishing expert.
These enablers here coerced me into ordering all three of the Birds of a Feather "le" patterns (Le Ete, Le Hivier, Le Printemps), plus some of the floss needed to complete them. My dd is giving them to me LOL
Ooooh, you need to pick up a copy of Yvonne Stanton's "Mountmellick Embroidery". It's a gem and is true to tradition. She sells supplies, too, and although located in Australia, it doesn't take that long to get items from their. I'm always amazed when it only takes about 7 to 10 days to receive something.
I started a piece of Irish Lace (don't ask me the name . . . escapes me at the moment). It was tedious, but I was enjoying the process. I probably should pick it up again. I have so many unfinished projects! I start something to get the "feel" of a technique, and then let it lie!! How dumb is that!!
I have an old Weldon's book with Irish crochet and I've tried several of the motifs. One I'm dying to do, but everytime I attempt it, the directions are wrong. It never turns out right. There's also the problem that it's in English terminology, rather than American, so I'm constantly fighting the directions.
Yes . . . those Irish and Scot sure knew how to do needlework!

Hmm - clip lamp for travel and sitting at the rink, any of the Kew Doors from the Skinner Sisters or if some one really loves me Medieval Majesty from Leon Conrad.
Maybe I should just ask of a Nordic Needle gift certificate! LOL
Other than that, more time for me. I have to learn to say no!
I want the Ann Nichols books on stumpwork, or one of Beth Russell's books - the name escapes me for the moment. I may have to buy them for myself though..
We have a gift exchange within my family and since my brother has my name, a GC from Home Depot or Rona is extremely likely. I will likely be buying lighting or storage for crafts as a result.
I LOVE Traditional Stitches. They are my sole (Canadian) supplier of Eterna Silk Mini Twist threads. I can't imagine doing that 'special' petit point project without them! lol Anyway, I just checked Traditional Stitches site, but couldn't find that particular book, although Janice does have one Mountmellick Embroidery book, so I e-mailed her and asked her if she could possibly get it for me. :) I'll post the results in my "What we GOT for Christmas/ Hannukah" post. :))

I know there is a book about Irish crochet lace: it is a re-print of an old book by Therese de Dillmont and it is beautiful, fulll of patterns and history. I found it in a bookshop in London two years ago, maybe Amazon has it in stock... If you like, I could try to find the ISBN. MariaRosaria (from Italy)
I need a suggestion. I need a good floor lamp for stitching. Any recomendations on brands and types? Like Dazor or Ott or ? Heads up my Christmas wish list. Clarice in AZ
I love my Dazor. DH bought it for me at Christmas four or five years ago. if we go on a trip in the RV the whole thing gets moved in there, by my chair, and I can stitch . My eyes have got to the point that, to be comfortable, I need the magnification. I have not had to replace the bulb yet, but some structural repair has been done to the hinge and so forth. I attribute these fixes to be due to driving on bumpy roads ( like I-10 and the PA Turnpike).
My dh got me a Daylight floor lamp last Christmas. I am so grateful to him, because with all this eye trouble I've been having, I couldn't read or stitch right now without it.
BTW, my cataract surgery is scheduled for Dec. 14.
