What's everyone working on?

The wee ones in the family are beginning to graduate to Big Girl Beds, so I'm making the afghan/bedspreads that are traditionally awarded in connection with this accomplishment.

My not-so-local Ben Franklin had a sale on James C. Brett Marble Chunky machine washable yarn, so I got that in a color appropriate to one of the girls (and the teal for myself).

Being a chunky yarn, it's extra-warm. I'm finding it almost too hot to sit under while I'm working on it. Which means that my little girl is going to be nice and toasty even if the power goes out during their next blizzard. :)

Trying to get the bedspreads out of the way before it gets too hot here. Also have a baby blanket due in June. Being a pragmatist, I think I'm going to let the wedding gift linger till just before that first anniversary deadline; the groom's sister filed for divorce after just a few weeks ... not even enough time for the mail-ordered kit to arrive, much less finish it.

I'm about halfway done with page 1 of 6 of the first fractal "bookmark." Given that I'm doing it on 18 count aida, it won't be a bookmark unless I need a 4x11 bookmark.

Good question. Stitching-wise:

Finishing up some diagrams for largish teaching project Stitching 2 smaller projects (meant to be half-day classes) with proposals due next week (fortunately completed photo not needed), A needlebook, and a frame-weight.

Stitching 2 small canvases - that are about 4-5" diameter - one a SW pueblo and the other a very cute little Halloween design to be donated for the ANG auction.

Oh, and finally, doing a color study kind of teaching piece being proposed as a cyber class.

Nothing for just fun, so to speak. But, once I finish the "business" stuff that I'm doing now - I'm really just cranking on the design side of the world. Which means a lot of playing with threads and stitches. Amazingly, I'm finding it takes a lot more of trial and effort in coming up with great combinations for canvas work stitches. I've got some art deco-ish sketches going that I'm about to move into the painting stage to then see if I want to do them as outlined canvas, which is then charted for filling. So, right now it's all about getting a bunch of proposals out the door. Amazingly, 3 different sets all due within 3 weeks of each other. Ugh.

That's the plan for tonight. I'm just in one of those kind of funks when nothing feels quite right/comfortable. Plus, I know that I actually have to do some for real graphing of these stitches, and, I'm sort of not in the mood. But, I'll do it. I'm hoping to go out tomorrow and get some small pieces of the new colors which came out for canvas, as I think there's something there for one of the designs.

Excuses is my name.....

Last Friday night I was at a retreat centre about 40km from here, and took along an old UFO and got restarted. It is Fairytale Bookmark from Textile Heritage, a castle with a courtyard garden and fountain. We grumble about kits from time to time on this group--so I will put in a good work for Textile Heritage, who have never disappointed me. The bookmark kit has aida band, more than enough threat, ribbon for backing....and a tassel! Very nice to work.

I've finished my Ellen Maurer-Stroh animal book, except for the cover. That will take some thinking, plus I have to wait and see what they're going to name the DGD2b.

In the mean time, I've started a crochet baby afghan, done in squares of dbl crochet and afghan stitch. Animal pics are then cs'd onto the afghan squares. It's an ooooold pattern from the 70s that I got somewhere. I tried to find it one day on the 'net and could only find

2 references to it, one as an ad in some newspaper/magazine and the other had a pic (which is what I was looking for) that was very small and doesn't enlarge well at all. I'm using a light pink Bernat Satin yarn and it's *very* soft with a pretty sheen to it.

I've just finished a badge from Permin of Copenhagen. It only took me a day, so it's not like it was a work in progress for a long time, or ever really stood a chance of becoming a UFO, but it was really nice to be able to finish something! And I got to have the company of my sister, who has moved into my bedroom for now, seeing as how I have a bad cold, or a mild flu.

I am struggling with a very simple counted xs called Here's My Heart, a give-away from Sullivan's to introduce their all-cotton floss (which I like, btw). I don't know why it's giving me fits, but it is. It's a simple heart divided into red, white and blue sections with different patterns in each section. I think I'm simply not made to do counted. I'm also working on a needlepoint stocking by Betty Smith, a simple cartoon cat dressed as an angel -- the stocking is for our cat Panzi.

.I'm doing a bit of this and that. Finished the top for my mom's quilt. Pulled out a crewel UFO and did some work on that. Am doing some Kissing Pillows for armed services. Have a large needlepoint out I work on it bits and pieces. Kind of rotation by craft :)

Mostly wasting time on Facebook games, and the computer. I MEAN to get to stitching...but I am the Queen of procrastinators.

I think before we retired I got much more done.

Now it is the big decision "shall I do laundry, or grocery shop today" Heaven forbid the two get done on one day. LOL

I'm working on a kitty cross stitch called Bag Ladies.

It looks like this

's not me selling that, it's just one of the few good pics of it I could find.

Slow going, it's BIG. But picking away at it and will have it framed after and gift to my MIL.

Oh... hi all. I'm new-ish (not counting the last month of lurking :) )

Welcome, Vae!

That project is adorable....and yes, a big undertaking. Are you a serial stitcher or a profligate one?

I have two - no, make that three - big projects going now, and a couple of small ones, and a medium one. Sometimes I get discouraged that the big ones show so little progress, but overall, I like putting one down and picking up something new (obviously!) so I just have to remind myself that there's overall progress amongst ALL my pieces. I try to do at least two weeks on a big project, then switch to the other big 'un. The little ones I'm doing on Sundays only, and can see the progress even when only one day a week because they're so small.

I think I'd probably have to class myself as intermittently obsessive stitcher. I will pick it up and work dilligently and obsessively for weeks on end, and then lay it down for weeks, and all over again, wash, rinse, repeat. :)

Been at this since I was in my teens, which was umm... one or two years ago. *grin*

And just to add in, I've finished stitching the poppy chart and have selected a fabric and have the muslin to line it so I can fill it with something to make a pin cushion or paper weight.

OOOOO -- I have that kit in my stash -- not too surprising :-). I REALLY wish I could work on more stuff for MOI but duty calls. Anywhooo -- besides the knitting, I am plugging away on the Spring Bellpull and will probably have it done for autumn -- LOLOL! Besides that, I am working on a biscornu for Janet, my stitchin' buddy who now lives in Birmingham. She bought the kit and had it sent to me and asked me to stitch it for her for her b'day in April. It's a new-ish one by Thea Dueck (sp??) and the kit came with purple fibers. Janet prefers pinks so I switched those fibers. It's a PITA because the fabric came in small little pieces about 3" x 6". I had to sew them all together so that I could get them on a frame and mounted to the GripIt! The (**&^%^^&*(( thing has FIFTEEN pieces all about 2" x 2" -- five on the top, five on the sides and five on the bottom. The sides are hardanger and when the piece is assembled, you put colored fabric behind them. It's very pretty and the stitching is easy, it's just a PITA with all those little pieces. I did call Janet and tell her she was out of her freekin' mind -- LOLOL! I DO get to keep the chart and the purple fibers so that helps a bit :-)))). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

What a good girl you are. I'll chime in - just did a couple of proposals, so after yet another trip to the LNS...got some luscious colors - one piece on yellow canvas with chili pepper red/oranges and greens, the other on mid-blue (Leveteen) canvas with kind of copper/purple/lavender - I know it sounds weird, but looks awesome. I'll post colorway pics when I can. Haven't stitched for a couple of weeks 'cause of the stupid swollen half my right hand from the stupid fall in the stupid Caribou at work. Hoping to try later - in the meantime, I'm cranking out some design sketches, and charting stitches like crazy. Must be spring - the urge to use some brights has really hit me.

I know what you mean about procrastinating once you're retired Gill - I used to get a lot more done when I was working, but what the heck. Now I'm working on Dewberry from Mystic Stitch - this is going to take a while. I just love her face. You can see it at

and just put Dewberry in the Search thingie.
