Wierd thing with Pattern Maker.

I used Pattern Maker to produce my next project - a false color radar map of a hurricane. It has lovely colors of oranges, reds and yellows, on a black background. But it calls for a total of 98, Mill Hill Antique glass beads - dark red 03003. I have not told Pattern Maker I want to use any beads at all. I am curious if anyone knows why Pattern Maker did this, and what DMC color I should substitute instead. TIA.

It does it because it's in the files and was the closest matching color to what was in the original picture. Click on the bead color (at the bottom) in that particular pattern and tell it to convert it to DMC. I tried it in my Pattern Maker and Mill Hill 03003 (Antique Cranberry) came out to DMC 3802 - Antique Mauve very dark. You might go ahead and convert it to that and then get the color you feel is closest.

Thanks Poetta, and Brenda. Why Pattern Maker has beads in its file, I have no idea. However, it helped me search my files, and I find the RGB values in the 03003 beads are 182,3,3. The closest "fit" I found was DMC 777, which is 84,4,4. DMC 3802 is listed at 93,51,67, and DMC 347 as 146,37,49. However, I have no idea how to judge which RGB values make the closest match. The closest distance in three dimensional color space is 347 at around 6500; DMC 777 is around 9600. (sum of the squares of the differences). Thanks for the help, and putting me on a track to find some sort of approach I can use.

Jim, since you are so knowledgeable about PatternMaker, would you have any idea why I have some of the color palettes listed would be blank? For example, Madeira has nothing in it, but Madeira Poly Neon has multiple items. Caron Collection and MillHill Beads also contain nothing(except for a couple of items I put in myself, that I probably should have put into the 'Custom' area). I have the PatternMaker Professional 3.10(yes, old I know). Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Sorry, Carey, I know very little about Pattern Maker. I suggest you direct your queries to Scott Horton at snipped-for-privacy@hobbyware.com. In the past Scott has *always* answered my queries very thoroughly and very promptly. HTH.
