expansivity data - excel, burns or byrnes slips

Apr 20, 2005 0 Replies

Hi all ...

As I've mentioned I'm running a paint-your-own pottery studio. A local potter (Newport, UK) is making up some items for us (bisqued mugs) which we want to glaze with the rest of our stock (mainly Gare bisquefire, some CountryLoveCeramics items too).

Trouble is getting the body and glaze matched up. The last test is still pinking after about 3 weeks.

Anyway, my enquiries have revealed that the Byrnes Slip, Excel Slip and Burns Slip should match our GG1700D (Gare transparent dipping) glaze.

Our potter friend wants expansivity information ... anyone out there with any info for me or do we have to go with trial and error.

Thanks for any help on this, cheers

Paul

PS: I did email the suppliers hence how I know the slips that are compatible ... if noone can help I'll get back and apply some pressure, but presumably they want us to buy from them so they are unlikely to be forthcoming.
