Firing clay with minerals

Anything can be put into clay and fired. The results may not be too good but it is a good learning exercise.

Take ten small balls of clay and incorperate at least ten different things. Once mixed well in roll out and form 3 L shaped tiles out of each mixture. Keep one unglazed and try different glazes on the other two.

You will need to fire these on an old kiln shelf or one that has been heavily coated with wash.You should end up with at least 30 tiles. Fire to at least 1200C

Here are some starters for you apart from the ones you mentioned.

Ajax cleaner, key filings from a locksmith, pumice, dirt from your garden, iron bearing sand, salt, glass, fine gravel, dried up glaze, wood ash etc stc. You will be surprised at the results
