I just bought an RK Whisper. I've just had it for a few days and love it. I think it is a beautiful wheel and it is indeed very quiet. My only concern is that its maximum wheelhead speed is 250 RPMs. I don't know this number stands up to other wheels but it feels like it is a tad slower than the Brents I normally throw on.

Don't worry about speed; you have MUCH better control at slow speeds, and that includes centring. I have no problems throwing on a treadle wheel; try getting THAT up to

250 RPM, your leg would be a blur! :-)

Steve: You're right. Centering is best at differing speeds for different people. I center at around 150, and throw between 30-45, but I (attempt to) throw very soft porcelain.

Are you throwing on one of those "Leach" style treadles? That's one "push" per revolution, isn't it? Never could get the hang of it, always threw my rhythm off. But then, I have the same problem with my 'lectric :>) Wayne Seidl

Yes that's the breed. I did 12 years production on it. Cheap, but you wind up walking in circles :-), then I went electric. I still have it though, I like the quietness of it.

I have a Shimpo about ten years old and love it, except for one thing. When i turn it to zero, it slowly turns backwards. I know you can adjust that, but it does it only when it is cold. Once it warms up, it is ok. When i adjust it so that it won't turn backwards on cold, it will not stop totally when it warms up. Does anyone have any suggestion for that problem?
