What am I talking about?? The signature block quilts that will be a gift from the church to a dear family that is relocating to another part of the state (close, but not close enough that they can still be active members of the church and whatnot). The oldest boy graduates this year, and I think he's staying fairly local for college - his is finished.
The middle boy is in 3rd grade, I believe, and has been having anxiety attacks and sleepless nights because of the anticipated move - his quilt is finished. The youngest boy is a darling, he's autistic, but at a highly functioning level. If you don't get to know the family, you really wouldn't know that anything major was "wrong" with him. He is a dear friend to Thomas (Thomas refuses to say goodbye to him, but instead insists on saying "See you later!") and even came to the karate birthday party we just had - his quilt is the one that is only
1/4 finished . That's because I didn't have all the blocks from his class or teachers until late.The monster quilt is the one for the parents - 100 signaure blocks, joined into large blocks, giving me a 5x5 quilt. Colors for sashing are hunter green, gold, and deep purple (per a little digging in a conversation with mom :->). I can't believe I'm in the home stretch!!! In the process of getting this entire thing together, I lost 6 of the blocks (fortunately, found them in the sewing trash can
- you know, the one that only has fabric trash or paper trash, but NO wet trash like soda cans or fruit peel). That was nearly a heart attack!
Got them out, pressed everything, started getting rows together. First row went together beautifully. As did the rest....or so I thought. Went to put the rows together and discovered that the only "correct" row was the first one. All the sashing in the subsequent rows was backwards!!!! LOTS of frogging and muttering later, and I get the sashing redone in the correct order (thin green, wider gold, thing green). Finally have all the rows made up and together, then misplace the fabric to do the borders!!
Ok, find fabric again (or maybe it was the second batch of fabric that I bought) and borders are on. Decide against a pieced backing simpy because I'm now thoruoughly tired of green, gold, purple, and muslin and I just want it finished. Off to LQS, find a more muted green for the backing, and prewash it....does anybody else know just what a pain it is to try and iron out 108" wide fabric??!!??
THis morning, I layered everything out, basted together and what not...making sure to smooth everything out as I went, starting from the exact middle of the quilt and working out 1 block each direction, then sliding and working on some more.
WHOOHOO....my fingers are tired though, so we'll see how long it take me to attach the binding...lol
